Sand in the tank, for the 3rd time?

When you were in the water pulling out the family was the water high enough to submerge the charcoal cannister? the vent valve is normally open and if submerged and filled with salty sandy water it would find its way into the fuel tank.

 

No I saw it. I also saw where you said you were doing donuts and rooster tails in the sand in the truck. And you were far enough into the surf to get hit by a "rogue wave". I get hit by those all the time.

 

Looking at those pics, do I see sand in the upper part of the filler neck? If so, that is where your problem is. Sand ain't going to come up from the tank and get in that part of the filler neck.

 

op, thank you for taking the time to update all of us on your problems. You have developed quite a following and all of us hope you can resolve this sooner rather then later. One of my boys is career army and I understand how valuable your off time is to you.

maybe this is the time to get it fixed and sell it. You don't
want to keep messing with this while you prepare to deploy.

I love my truck and so does every gate guard lol I end up being one of those guys I hate where they talk to you and hold up the line... I've been dying to check out and talk to the guy on base with the blue 2gen! If you know him let me know! We still need to meet up when I get back from my deployment

 

By the time you're back I'll probably still be downrange haha

 

There's a nice blue 2nd gen that's at the hospital. I just haven't seen who drives it

 

No, it was only ~4 inches of water off the front right wheel.

 

That was mostly due to it sitting on the floor next to the pile of junk they swept up. I'm not sure how much of that is pre and post removal. It was also in a box full of sand for the ride home

 

Maybe the dealership is putting sand in it.....

 

I'm really curious what the root cause is here. I've read maybe 20 pages here and there.

Have you tried removing the aftermarket lights and see if the problem goes away? I don't think a little bit of "volcanic dust" in the tank is going to make it quit running.

 

OP, good luck man. Dont mind the craziness of others. Sucks youre having to go through this.

In my humble opinion sounds like dealership screwed up the install/fix of the 1st issues. Probably reused something they shouldn't have.

Looks like your going to have to prove that to get anywhere.

 

I think the only thing the service dept at the dealership has done wrong, is not find the true issue. I would expect every one has a little shit in their gas tanks, mJust expect we all get crap from gas stations. I do find it interesting that each time has had some "dirt" from the last off road trip. I wonder if you some how hit the charcoal filter when washing and that forces in some particles. Speaking of washing, I would love to hear some detainers stance on your methods of washing.

If you decide to keep it, make it stick and wash the truck ever dam day, I bet it happens again as its not about crap in the fuel.

 

Get someone else to let you use the same wash routine on their truck and see if it develops issues. Any volunteers?? lol

 

I already did and reported no problem? I wash my engine after every offroad trip as well.

 

After a short drive on Pismo, I gently rinsed mine (a 3rd gen) with a hose nozzle set to mist and I had no issues. It's possible that the OP is blasting water someplace it doesn't like, but I think it's more likely there is a weakness in the wiring harness, either stock or aftermarket. Considering at least one early truck had a TRD Sport sticker on one side and a TRD Off-road sticker on the other, I'd say it would be pretty easy for a gasket or o-ring to get missed somewhere in an electrical connection under the hood.

 

Maybe you haven't noticed but op has a 3rd gen... I'm sure you have though.

 

Didnt realize they drastically changed the entire eletrical harness much like the suspension and cab design...
