As a suggestion, can we add a Trailer Build sub-forum?

It seems a lot of us build/modify their trailers, and talk about the mods in various threads. I think it would be useful/helpful to have all this discussion and information in one place, like the truck builds.

To me, finding a build thread in a sub-forum is easier than finding one in the whole Towing forum.

Any thoughts? Mods, what do you think?

I build trailers as a hobby. I don't think there is that much interest out there.

I always thought the general fabrication thread was as good as any place to put trail er build threads.

    Just my opinion.

there are some badass builds on expedition portal, especially if that's the direction you want to go.

This winter I plan to research modding my trailer to better suit hauling canoes and yaks along with camping gear, so YA it would make my life easier.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
I'm planning some upgrades on my trailer soon.

So far I bought a jetski trailer from a friend who had retrofitted it with a flatbed to haul a motorcycle.

I then built a 4x6 box on the 4x9 (yes) trailer, 18" tall, with a tailgate. That gives me a truck bed style box, with external storage on the flatbed. Also the axles are near the rear due to the weight distribution of the jet ski, which works out perfect. It's a bit long, and the weight is right over the axle, and it tows incredibly well. Already did a 1650 mile roadtrip with it, never for one minute worried me.

    Upgrades done:

Built Box 4'x6'x18" w/ drop tailgate
    Rewired
    LED lights
    New safety chains
Replaced 12" tires with 15" 205/75/r15 Radials (had to replace fenders / raise them to fit).
    Lots of D-Rings
Added some angle iron to the sides with holes drilled in them for tie down spots

    Future plans:

    Replace the 2x6 decking
Upgrade neck from 3" 14ga square tube to 3/16" black iron 2" square tube.
    New Coupler for new neck
More D-rings and tie down angle
    Torsion axles with brakes
Crossbars above box so I can add a cargo basket or haul lumber easier.

    --

The box is modular so it can be unbolted and removed to give me a flatbed again. I didn't built a lid to the box because I wanted crossbars instead for mounting bikes, cargo basket, or hauling lumber on top of box. I don't need it to be weathertight because important stuff goes in the truck with a bedcover, or the 4Runner back area. This is in Rubbermaid Action Packers, so it's pretty well protected from elements anyways.

I'll try to post some pics later, it's been a super great item to have for camping, and I towed it with my 4Runner and STILL got 19MPG doing it cause it's low profile.
