Duratrac vs KO2 on 3rd Gen?

Duratracs better for snow and mud than the K02. Duratracs also seem better on wet pavement

 

No AT will do well in places that get hard slick snow or ice. That's when you really should be considering dedicated snows or even studs.

 

Since we won't be living (yet) in the snow full-time and the Duratracs seem to do well enough in the snow then I'd probably lean towards using Duratracs for our winter trips. We got up to Bend, OR a couple of times every winter and take it up to Mt Bachelor for skiing. There can be ice on the road but I wouldn't say that the entire road is a giant sheet of ice. They plow the roads well enough. If I lived up there full-time I'd do dedicated snows/studs. I just wonder if the Duratracs are only marginally worse in snow on roads than snows like Blizzaks. If it's marginal I'd go Duratracs and just keep them on year-round.

those look good, i got almost the same truck.

 

They look good on the factory rim.

 

Seems like most of the mountain rescue and Search and Rescue groups out here run Duratracs on their vehicles. I also notice that most of those same guys run Duratracs on their personal vehicles.

The only thing I can contribute is that I have seen the KO2's lose large chunks of tread on challenging off road trails - sometimes coming off almost a whole lug at a time. They both are great tires though and I think anyone is served well by whichever model they choose.

 

KO2 is for people who buy tires on looks

 

My buddy took his Duratracs off his truck, he works at the ski hill. Said they kept breaking loose on the corners.

 

Had about 7 inches of snow last week then froze. My jeep buddy and I took the tower lines to the gym........ I used 2wd the entire time

Not a close up. But my duratracs have served me well. 7k on tire wheel setup. They clean out great. In rain they throw water like a waterfall behind you. Snow packed icy roads with trac off and vsc off i can comfortable plant my foot down before all 4 start to break loose.

 

Duramax all the way...sure its noisier but I take traction over that anyday of the winter days up here.
