Surely there is a way to start your truck (Not with remote start) and then lock your truck while it warms up so no one can just drive off with it... It won't let me lock the truck from the inside of the door, the door handle, or with the smart key... Surely others have run into this and know how to secure your truck while it warms up... Thanks in advance for the help.

You have to take the little blade key out of your fob and stick it in the lock on your handle on the outside of the truck.

Side note: I never understood why the Ford number pads on the door didn't catch on with other manufacturers.

    Do you have a 2010 or a 3rd gen?

Do you have the key separate from the remote? With the engine running, if you close all the doors and hit "lock" on the remote. It should lock, right?

I have a 2017... I haven't tried to lock the door with the key inside the FOB... But I would think pressing the lock button on the FOB would lock it... No it doesn't

When the car is running the remote control lock and unlock is disabled. I cant exactly remember why but someone on here explained it. Only option is to take out the blade key and lock it with the tumbler on the outside of the truck.

The key in the fob will work. Just make sure you have it turned correctly since it only works one way.

No idea on the new ones. I'm sure they are fine now, but you make a good point, I am equally surprised that others havent jumped on board. Though with key fobs and push starts maybe they thought they were no longer necessary?

I think about it when I go for a run or ride my bike. Would be nice to "lock" my keys in the car and just use the code to get in.

This feature is disabled because even if it was locked i could easily smash your window, open the door and drive off. As long as i didn't turn it off i could drive till the gas ran out

So toyota disabled this so customers dont do it.

My remote start allows you to do it though ;)

Not as convenient as a combo but I use something like this and stick it up on the frame.

I had a key made without the chip - costs about $2.
Start it up with reg chip key, then lock with non chip go inside let it warm up.
Drive to work nice and toasty.

I did this on my 05 and do it now on my 14.

Yeah, I need to pick something like that up. Only issue is I have to locate it far enough away that the smart key isn't working.

Or just buy the remote start system add a smart start to it and you can lock your keys in the car go do your thing and reopen with your phone.

I do this when i go cycling or ride my dirt bike

I often leave my phone as well (during run). I take my phone while biking.

I just wonder what kind of neighborhoods some of you live in. If you are worried to leave you truck unlocked for 5 minutes, you need to move.

I live in a SKETCHY neighborhood (we call it stabby) and even I think I am fine for 5 minutes!
