What UCA you running? I have spc and the alignment tech named Matt at burien Firestone got me 0 toe 0 camber and 2.9 for caster. Firestone in renton highland is good to work with as well.

Caution would be wise in purchasing a winch for a Unimog as the voltage is key (unless the winch is on an isolated system).
Our tacomas are 12V and with the ability to have dual batteries helps increase amperage.
If the Unimog is 24V, which most modern commercial KW/PB/DAF are, a winch from here might be in order -> Winch

Yes. He used to be a Unimog reseller, so he knows his truck and what it needs and doesn't need. Just depends on whether he's actually pulled the trigger or not. Answer - not.

I haven't redone math yet, I'll get you the link on what I was using as a source for formulas. I started losing it when I tried figuring the resistance caused by the sheaves and how mechanical advantage played in. It said something to the effect, "the number of sheaves is one less than the mechanical advantage, where MA = load resistance divided by the winch capacity, rounded up to the nearest whole number." How does that make sense when you could use a different number of sheaves???

Edit - thanks for understanding where I'm coming from. I kept thinking, "damn, I'm going to sound like a condescending ass, I really hope I don't sound like a condescending ass, what is wrong with me, why can't I leave people alone?" :anonymous:

A friend and I are planning to head into the hills Sunday morning... Anyone want to come? He drives an older 3rd gen 4Runner with 285/75R16 Duratracs and Icon suspension. It's a 5 speed with no lockers, so that's a thing... lol

Would like to keep the group pretty small but I really don't care. If someone knows a spot to go as well that'd be great.

Went to Green Water last weekend off of FS70 and it was a shit show with full sized trucks trying to equate the distance driven up the hill before getting stuck to penis size.

Would like to avoid that, if possible.

Perhaps @Nimitz wants to get the GX out?

Also, my wife ripped the bumper off of her IS while packing out of the garage today. Snowpocolypse strikes another victim lol...

I got it "back on" and wrapped a ratchet strap around it then called the insurance. Let them figure it out.

Literally everything broke. Nothing just came apart, it broke. Brackets, plastic bits, grill, turn signal, everything.

Free body diagram or look up "triple line winch pull". That's how we were rigged up. It's a 3:1 advantage. Take out for friction, the fact that 8000# is probably theoretical, etc. and yeah, the logistics of moving a 23,000 lb. truck is tough.

And don't worry about condescension. I have a thick skin.

At least you don't start or end every post with, "Well, I am an engineer."

    Must not be an engineer.

^^ I've stayed away from that, too.

There are a lot of us around and there is no need to be dequavian about it.

That's the model I meant to say. I'm hoping I can find someone who bought it for one project and is selling it to make room sort of deal. it's one of those things I don't really need but would be fun to have!

My next big thing I want is a mill. done so much crap with a grinder/drill/ect that would have been way easier on a mill. I just need to find a used one I like for a price I'm willing to pay.

Success! Bushing is in. John at mule finally got the axle out. Said it was pretty tough. Prolly humoring me. Also said just as hard to get back in. Must just be my truck as he did one yesterday and it popped right out.
    Mules rules!
Also he had to make a tool to separate my cv triad cuz it was stuck too.
Highly recommend mule for this job. John said usually about a $250 ish job. Worth it.
