I took my 07 tacoma into a service station for an oil change and when one of the mechanics started the engine another one got smoke out by an exhaust leak. so now that i need to replace one rusted out part. (around the flange where the manifold and cat connect not sure if it's cat side or y pipe side) I'm think I might as well buy a whole new system.

what I'm looking for is Highest performance with the quietest sound for under $600 and not necessarily from a local store I will order it from a online retailer and wait for it to ship.

    thanks.

Not gunna find much performance from an exhaust, pretty sure stock is 2.5 mandrel.

Sounds like what u need is further up anyways.

Edit..... u need to find out what caused the smoke.
    What color?

the color of the smoke isn't important the fact that it is leaking out around the ypipe/cat is what's important. I just want to replace the whole system to avoid a future problem. as far as performance/quiet goes I would rather have something quiet, but not restrictive.

I also want advise and to avoid hours of research. because I went through that with a sport car once. and that was a mess getting the right parts to match up.

Thats right, oil burning or rich fuel are not distinctly different or important.

The fact u have any smoke coming out isnt important either, plug up the crack or hole and ignore it.

    Blissful?

U want advise still about an exhaust still right?

Go to a shop, tell them the desired sound you want... have em cut ur muffler off, then clamp on 3 or 4 and let u start the truck each time a new muffler is clamped on.

Buy the one u like the sound of.

You buy an exhaust with your ears just like speakers.

Good luck doing an exhaust purchase online and being happy.
    it may work out.

Just remember the microphone on the camera used to make a video for youtube isnt 100% accurate all the time, the compression may effect it, your speakers may not replicate it perfectly due to these lil treble and bass knob settings and eq.

I did change headers on my truck and took a before and after video... same location even.

Guess what.... massive change in tone in person.
    Zero change in reproduced video.

    Carry on

My apologies, I thought the smoke came from the engine, not the exhaust. I was going to wait till I was ready to work on the engine to deal with the smoke. Thank you for correcting my mistake.

I also should apologize for assuming that different people on this site actually buy a variety of exhaust system and could give me some ideas on which ones are quiet without bottle necking. My Bad.

now excuse me while I delete my account and look for help else where.

Try magnaflow, biggggg canister i assume.
flowmaster will be pretty loud unless u go to something like the 50 delta i would assume, but flowmaster are chambered.

I think the trd is quiet but thats subjective.... its made by bosal.

The main pinch point will be the ypipe and manifolds.

Knowing what the smoke was can help you/us possibly help, thats why i asked.
Also if you didnt see the smoke yourself, are you positive the lube tech was correct that it blew smoke?
Did he say smoke, or did he say fumes?

If fumes, no worries....If smoke... well, then we can break it down to unburned fuel, burning oil, or water and can help give ideas.

You still will not find much performance from a full exhaust unless force fed.... Im trying to save u money.
The stock size is adequate, ur fine with just a muffler of ur liking. If force fed, 3", plus clearing the upstream path.

Maybe 2 straight thru mufflers.... this helps in large exhaust piping with headers and a ypipe.... it might be ur ticket.

Odds are you wont find better help on the web for tacomas than this place.

Not pointing the finger at me in anyway, its just that theres techs here, some VERY well versed members in different fields, and years of accumulated data.

My apology, xru is very very informative as well

Make you own with one of the magnaflow 6" round mufflers.
    I have a 18" X 6" good sound but not crazy..
You may want to run the 27" X 6" 2 1/4" to keep it quieter...

But if want if really quiet go to a bigger oval...
