I got stuck this morning (Lots of Ice in Portland)

Thanks all. Good to know, what with advancing age, it's getting harder ever year to haul those sand bags.

 

Portland in the winter. Always a good combination. People don't realize Portland gets more ice then snow because of where they are situated. Nothing but chains will help with ice. Studs might, but only if they are new

 

I've used cat litter before. Keep a plastic jug of it in the truck in the winter. Last year, the driveway was nothing but ice, a little litter made it easier to go up.
Fairly cheap, light weight, traction on ice.

 

I heard that bull bars can actually cause more damage to your truck than any good it will do

 

I normally hate aftermarket numbers and winch mounts, but that usoffroad one is flipping sweet. I'm really glade I clicked on this thread...

Ah gotcha. That would work. I like the previous post where they have the winch mounted on the steel between the plastic bumper. Looks clean

Just some velcro straps on the tie downs at the back of the bed.

Hey now - I never went into the ditch! I had backed up to let cars through until I could break some ice.

 

As mentioned before...studded tires are made for ice, tire chains even more so - but they don't drive as smooth, and 4x4 aids both of those.

 

Just stick to the flatlands kid. Your driveway seems plenty dangerous.
