One of the cool projects that I have taken on as a machinist is I took a Hawkins 50 Cal muzzleloader that someone had tried to remove the non-removable breach and snapped the ball nut off of the end. So I made my own stainless steel breech plug, drilled and tapped the barrel and match the breech plug with the powder bushing. And now probably have the only pass through cleanable Hawkins muzzleloader out there.

Exactly! It'll either work or it won't and you'll figure out why and learn the inner workings of the lower group in the process. It's not like your modifying the sear for full auto or something.

I've read the statute. There's no law against building a gun, you just cannot give it away or sell it without serializing it first. And to legally serialize, you need a class II license. The language is pretty cut and dry.

You do not have to register per BATFE, unless your state mandates this. Read the law, I don't know what SC laws are, but make sure.

Yeah, I guess you would have to be a muzzleloader person to know what a lot of that means, sorry!
but here is what mine ended up looking like, and I restored the whole rifle at the same time.

Mine are shipped to my shop. No FFL required for an 80% because it is not a firearm.

    Yet!

Right I'm saying if you live in someplace where you would typically have to register a firearm upon purchase, you don't have to do that with an 80% lower once it's completed.

Here you don't have to register, so $80 for a PSA stripped lower is a lot more "economical" than a metal 80% for $60.

After January 22, you will no longer have to fill those out at the gun shop either. Congress is passing Donald Duck's reversal on that process.

I could see why you would want to make it easier for everyone to get ahold of a gun and have no paperwork to track that stuff.
Just kidding, There are a lot of people that should not have a gun let alone no one know about it. Having to go through a bit of a process kinda weeds out the wackos looking to shoot up their work place or ex girlfriend.

It's more just to streamline the process of standing in line at the gun stores and then having to take the few minutes it takes to fill them out. You still can't sign them unless you're in front of the certified FFL dealer with appropriate identification. I suppose some gun shops are incredibly busy at times and this procedure, that used to be legal, will help them out with time management.

Back to the comparison of firearms and their chamberings. Before trying to do this or bantering back and forth about which is better or shoots further or lighter or more cost effective, let's take a little look at history of the cartridges we use and how we settled on the ones that are in use to this day. This is a lengthy read but it is accurate.
