    Well, the wife bought me my Christmas present tonight...a new set of Cooper ATP's for the Tacoma. I guess she wasn't confident in my 13 year old Cooper AT's. Actually my son will be home on leave next week and will steal her truck while he's home, so she'll be driving the Wrangler so it had to be done. I was actually going to wait till after Christmas for tires.

    Well I just picked up a Dake 01 Arbor Press from Fleabay for 67 dollars shipped it is dual marked Dake and Atlas sad thing is the plate is missing and they cost as much as the press did lol But look up a new one https://www.amazon.com/Dake-Leverag...ords=Dake+1+Model+Single+Leverage+Arbor+Press not sure how old this one is but Dake bought Atlas in the 40s and since it is dual marked body has Dake cast in and a plate for Atlas on the side.

    you'll appreciae this one. work now has contractors coming in to give quotes on building the fenders. the metel shop at the airport said they couldn't handle it. the boss says it takes me too long, but won't buy any tools to help me.

    About par for the course from what you have said around there. Does your boss know there is huge fed / state data base he could put his RFP on and wait till contractors contact him lol When he figures out the machines to do it yourselves are cheaper maybe he will buy them hell used refurbed equip is 40 percent the cost of new and still cheaper then having off site outside sourcing.

    Well I got it to move over one spot so if you all have some new tool / old tools to show off and link the cost of the new ones it looks like it will take 11 to get it off the first row.

    nope we hav a fully equipped fabrication shop with a 450lb 62 year old welder that won't , or can't, do anything and no one will let me have a chance at it. he won't buy the tooling because as he says we are a body shop not a fabrication shop, and i'm not allowed to use the tools in the fab shop. the welder doesn't care for me and i've never known why, except i did compete a structural job in 2 1/2 days he said would take 3-4 weeks and all i had was a welder, skill saw, and a grinder. he'll either retire or die soon ( i hope retire but his health is failing) and i seriously doubt i'll get a shot at the fab shop. i applied for a mechanics position a few years ago and wasn't given an interview. funny thing was 1 of the uys they hired was a guy i trained when working for cat and then the local cat dealer they contract for service offered me a job.

    i'd like to work somewhere i could be happy. i'd just like lot's of work and to be left alone, or a different occuation all together. i sent an email to cabelas as they are opening a store near here. I could easily be the archery department manager i guess we'll see. I have a boding feeling i'll be doing this crap ( i love the welding though) until i just can't work anymore. not a promising retirement

    Yeah ,

    I love what I do with the dogs it is the BS we have to put up with from to be honest the management and the public. Yes we need controls as we have some bad folks working for us but jeez . I liked doing metal work but when I got out here in this state the highest pay I could get and still work in this state was the same amount as when I got out of school in 1983 .. So I went with this I am counting time to retirement and It has been suggested by my VA rep I might think of going out 100 percent and be done with the way things are falling apart joint wise etc. I am considering it seriously and just work in my own shop doing small jobs as I can.

    Casper66,

    You can appreciate this I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63e9tugS_ts&t=155s I have watched all of his vids a young kid with SKILLS I have not worked steel like that in over 20 years and I do not think I was even half as good as this kid. One of the reasons I am redoing my shops :} go back to working metal but on my time table and interests I have several things I have looked at that I can make and I am pretty sure will sell soo.... :}
