Have you heard of using a hi lift jack as a winch? That's a cheap way to substitute a winch if ya got one.

Doesn't really tell me why a winch is more effective on a 4x4 than it is on a 2x4... Seriously curious why that's that thing. Show me some science.

A true bull bar won't hold a winch, so hopefully you're referring to those hidden which mount things lol

It's doable, but it'll take you a while to move anywhere

You don't need a winch because you slid out of your driveway this morning. You need a 4x4 and decent tires. Or to just chalk it up to life and keep on driving the prerunner.

Or go ahead and hang a 90 pound bumper ornament on a pavement princess.

Your money, your choice. I won't complain about a never used winch up for sale in a few years.

A winch is no more effective on a 4x4 that a 4x2, but I'd pick a 4wd with no winch over a 2wd with a winch any day. Winching is slow, kills batteries in a hurry, and it's easier to not be stuck in the first place.

Or improve the traction on that truck you have, and skip both.

I live in Oregon as well. Stock 4x4 besides Cooper A/T 3's. I hit that 4x4 switch and can point my truck at any reasonable place I want to take it without losing traction. Been up hwy 20 on Santiam pass to play in the snow the last couple weekends. No studs, chains or kangaroo smashing bumper.

Are people really suggesting OP should have used Maxtrax or the like in that application?? Good grief Charlie Brown.

Just calling it like I see it.

    Furthermore:

You're the one that blew your load on a pee-runner and run shitty tires 365 AND can't back 25' out of your fucking driveway without a lightbar, maxi-pad-trax and a winch.

I'm just glad I'm not your neighbor....I'd probably have to put in a fucking moat between you and my rock wall

Sorry, didn't blow my load, just bought a truck. I'm ok with your dick being bigger than mine buddy. Maybe I'd get my pee-runner stuck in your moat trying to see if I could.

Since there's no science behind why a winch is more effective on a 4x4 than it might be on a 2x4, it's gotta be an ego thing. Kinda like how a Harley is more of a motorcycle than a Honda might be.

If I was your neighbor I'd be stocking my moat with crocodiles before long.

lol, nah. Not at all. So many people saying they wouldn't bother with a winch on a 2x4 made me genuinely curious why... Thought for sure I was missing something.
