New England B.S. Thread

I guess the question would be what brought my parents here. Same ole story as everyone else...looking for a better life. I was 12 when we came over. Part of Portugal that I'm from there is NOTHING there. Small town, foothills of the mountain, just farming. Not for the younger generations anymore. Mom's sisters already were here, for the same reason, so they talked my parents into coming over. PROUD to say that my parents went about doing it the right way and came over legally. Took about 12/13 years to get it, but luckily it happened. Life man... It twists and turns.

LOL. Can't say I like the winter, but for some reason the fam settled here so here we are. Cold where I'm from too, but definitely NOT like this.

And big hats off like you said to them. My best friend's father is from Greece and did the legal thing, plus worked about 100 hours a week and saved to buy a house on his own.

 

I've been here all but 1 of my 43 yrs that's how smart I am..and that yr was in NY when I was 5 yrs old.

 

That's the shit right there man! Living the American dream as they say. Mom and dad took whatever job(s) they could get. Came over December of 94. Dad is an electrician so so was working and doing side jobs. Still does that actually. In 99 my parents bought a house. LEGIT hard workers right there. Been in that house ever since. Put on an addition a few years ago, but still there. Myself, typical Portuguese kid, lived with them till I got married. Married in 09 and bought a house. Guess it's just what we do... Gotta be "grown ups" and try to keep the traditions going now.

 

I play Tuesday nights at four kicks in Taunton. PT just gave me the OK to start playing again.

 

Not familiar with the place, I'm guessing a house league. I run the South Shore of Minute Man Dart League..we have a couple of teams in the area.

 

Exactly. He was a chef mainly but would do anything to earn an honest dollar. Bought a 2-3 family and kept the small unit for himself, rented the others out and did the maintainence himself til he could afford to buy a house in Hingham. He also paid for one of his sisters to go to college.

I was similar in that I lived at home till I was 29, between finishing college and needing to finally fuck up enough to deal with my own issues..smart Irishman.

 

Nothing wrong with living with your parents till then. At least not in my opinion. To me it indicates there is a strong family bond, plus it gives you time and a chance to gwt things sorted out and set up for the next big step, which is usually either venturing out on your own or "shacking" up with someone.

Nope. My friend at work is still at home in her early 30's. Why throw money down a rent-hole if you don't have to is my thought, plus in her case she's really close with her parents.

My wife's twin sister and husband moved in with the folks 12 yrs ago when we bought their house, due to the parents' getting older and not being able to keep up with the house like they once did.

 

I love winter. Snow season is my favorite season.
Mud season on the other hand can go suck my........

 

I did the same thing, although I should have moved out sooner. not sure if you we're the only child but I might as well have been captive. curfew even at age 23. it was awkward when we finally had a really big fight, continued to live there but didn't talk to my father for a whole year, then told them the day before it happened that I was getting engaged, married a year later and moved out in half a year. now we get along lol

 

LOL. Strict Portuguese parents... Normal.

 

Strong family values are a good thing. Sadly they just don't seem to make people like they used to.

Sounds like my parents too. Reading this is bringing back lots of memories. They were strict as hell.

Nuno, so when you came here you had to jump into school mid stream. That must've been tough. My wife came here when she was 13 also.
