As many of us wake up and get ready for the day ahead, we find ourselves stuffing our pockets with bulky items. The most common include: phone, wallet, and car keys. For the small amount of time they are used everyday, it would be much simpler to have an item that would eliminate some of the bulkiness. What if I told you we have a phone case attachment that would allow you to store your key fob on the back of your phone? Using a special adhesive packet, along with a new (ready to program) key fob inside, you could do just that. Now, I ask for your feedback. What would you be willing to pay for a product like this? What questions or concerns do you have? Would you use this product as a backup to your already existing fob? Or would it be primarily used? Thank you for your feedback!

EDIT: This is a senior project, so any helpful information is appreciated! This post is simply for feedback and comments regarding our product.

EDIT(2): The product features a 3D printed housing that is approximately 5mm thick. This model can be programmed to your 2nd Gen Tacoma with the instructions in the link: http://freeremoteinstructions.com/toyota/toyota-tacoma-2005-2014/. The list price is $30 for those interested. Any questions feel free to post below, thank you!

I have a wallet case on my phone so I have already combined 2 must have things. However, I would be interested in a much smaller profile key fob, or a combination fob/blade to eliminate some heft from my keyring.

The item would be around 5mm thick. We are currently in the process of making a sturdier housing. I will post more pictures as the product is updated.

Alright, so for those who are interest, we have finished up our current model. There are still some refinements that we are considering implementing. What does everyone think? The list price is $30 for those who are interested in purchasing!

Smart. Would make it super easy to steal. Would need some kind of fingerprint scanner IMO

Our product is intended to be a cheaper alternative to the OEM fobs. As a result, the security of the fob is essentially the same as the OEM version.

Im not sure how it would be any easier to steal than your factory key fob. Are people in the habit of leaving their phones in places they wouldn't leave their keys?

As for the product itself...I know it is a school project, and there are budget constraints associated with development, but the packaging could use some refinement. Possibly a thin 3d printed shell.

I am not knocking your product, because it is a marketable idea. I am just assuming that you would like constructive criticism.

Agreed. I wouldn't be in the market anyway but fwiw that looks like a piece of paper glued on a ziploc bag. Needs some work on presentation for many people to be interested imho.

My concern is that it would add bulk to the phone. I know you mentioned how much it sticks out but have you considered a full phone case with the fob sitting flat with the rest of it? Kindof like how someone mentioned the wallet cases for phones are popular but it could be cool to have everything flush on the back even if it overall is bigger at least it doesn't just stick out in one spot. Just my 2 cents

Do you mean a phone case that has a built in attachment or an attachment that runs the full length of a phone case?

Well, for us old guys with flip phones I don't have a need for this. Now if it had a life alert button, just maybe.

FWIW, since I need a key with me anyway, I do not think I would use this item. For my britches, Im not saving that much more room. GREAT idea though. Shows some really good critical thinking skills there.

I like the idea. I dislike(visually) the actual product.

I was thinking a full phone case but either would work although the problem is matching it to multiple phone cases with their different dimensions and curves

We are currently working on a thinner design. This model is just a current representation of what the final version will look like. If you were to improve on the idea, what would you do?

Our original idea was to create a phone case that housed the fob, but as we explored our options it became overwhelming. There are so many phones released every year that a phone case design isn't very practical. Not to mention, the price point would be much higher, eliminating our goal of a cheaper alternative fob.

Fair enough. I still like the idea, it all comes down to how well you can implement it. Good luck and keep us posted on how the project comes along

Make it look like it's part of the phone case.

Like the mophie cases that houses an extra battery, but just looks like a bulky case.

I'm no engineer... but make the fob part look like its part of the case.

    If that makes any sense:anonymous:
