yeah, my comment was just to clarify that the truck runs perfectly fine with no fob present. You can lock the doors with the hidden key in the fob. Just be sure to turn it the right way or it won't do anything.

So if the door button is bypassed then the truck will stay running?
Do you happen to have a remote start installed to confirm this?
I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered...

    Hmm
The2016 has the push to start too?
I'm confused when you wrote "just be sure to turn it the right way"

No my comment was just in regards to push to start in general. The fob needs to be present to start the truck but once it's running, you can throw the fob in the trash and it'll stay running. It'll beep and nag you that it doesn't detect the fob but you can still drive off with it. Guess it's the same thing that will happen if the battery in the fob goes dead. You can, however, start the truck with a dead fob by touching the toyota emblem on the fob to the start button.

Remote start bypasses the fob needing to be present so I'd assume it shuts off when the door opens for security purposes.

And yes the 2016 has push to start also. The fob has a lasercut key in it that can be removed and used to lock/unlock the door but it only works one way.

Ahh I gotcha. So I'm wondering if the door sensor is bypassed the truck will stay running while remotely started when the door is opened...
Do you have a remote start installed in your truck?

Not yet. Thought about it but haven't pulled the trigger. It does get annoying having to walk outside to crank the truck to defrost the windshield in the winter. [/lazy]

    Yes exactly.
I'm going to keep looking around about bypassing the auto shut off feature

Could be a serious insurance issue to do that. If your truck was stolen and you bypassed a security system that could have prevented it, think the insurance is going to pay out?

Most likely they will, but who knows.

Negligible at best. If anything, the push start system saves the starter from erroneously long or short start attempts that actually screw up the starter motor. It also saves from people putting the key in and turning it too far when getting in an already running vehicle, causing a nasty grinding. So the extra start here and there isn't much of a factor.

I agree but that's a risk I'd be willing to take

Is there also a key cylinder in the column as well?
I have never owned a car with pushbutton start so I don't know

No key cylinder in the column, just the door handle. There is an emergency starting procedure which involves holding the key fob up to the start button while pressing it.

Yep. That solves most of what I'd use a remote start for (dogs in car while I go into the convenience store for a minute) which is why I've not run out and gotten one yet.

Yes but you can add remotes to it or even a smart phone start

Smart phone start sounds like a great thing for people who work a mile away from where they park.

I might do it just because it's cool.

The fact that the engine shuts off when the door is opened even with the fob present still seems dumb to me. Hoping they come up with a bypass for this

Making the original key fob a 2 way transmitter?
If you were referring to the engine shutting off stupidity bypass, in cars of other automakers this is not the case. I'd agree with you that it would never happen if this was all true for every auto manufacturer
