so if you plan to keep your prerunner 100%, wouldn't a winch and bumper be even MORE necessary if you plan to drive in foul weather or offroad?

I would say a 4WD would be MORE necessary if he plans to drive in foul weather or off-road.

understood. But he has no plans for that. Thus, expecting to continue getting stuck a winch would be useful. I think that's the answer the op wants to hear LOL

I think that essentially sums up what a few have said, probably the best way yet.

A front receiver hitch and winch cradle are one solution that would add weight to the rear axle until you took it from the bed and used it. Possible theft if the winch becomes more of an issue at that point though too, but an idea nonetheless.

I think for him, he will only encounter that type of situation once every blue moon. I'd say if he planned to encounter it more often he'd be fighting a losing battle "upgrading" his 2wd when in reality he would NEED a 4wd.

4WD. If I lived down there, a 2WD is all you need unless you head to the Mtns a lot. Lot of my friends down in OC drive Prerunners.

I feel your pain OP. I got stuck in my work truck (AWD Ford Explorer) for four hours in that ice in the west hills. A tow driver with chains on all four tires, but only 2WD, couldn't make it to me and bailed. My coworker had the same Explorer as me WITH studs on all four wheels. He breezed through it all without issue.

So moral of the story is, AWD or 4WD is better than 2WD, but add chains or studs and now your golden.

And flares are terrible at melting ice. Just saying...

The lower the more traction but if you go below 20lbs you shouldn't go over 60mph. Also keep in mind 20lb on the street will wear your sidewalls. Might be good for icey mornings though.

Home depot bags ftw!! I had 5 but gave one to my mom. And glad you made it home okay! Took me 6.5 hours today..was up around the Lloyd Center area and got home a little before 9.

Great idea! Took me 6.5 hours to get home and my tires are on top of snow right now in the driveway.
