What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Just disappointed with the help fact it happened,still happy with it and know it's capable.

I drilled two holes to mount the brackets that came with my light bar, added some spacers in between the brackets and the crash bar where I am mounting to so that the light bar sits level with the lower bumper grille. It works perfect! Wiring is a breeze too. Or you can go and buy the Cali Raised LED/Rigid light bar mounts for the lower bumper that bolt into the outsides of the crash bar I believe.

 

Debadged and "Re-badged" the truck with matte black badges. Removed the V6 badge and added TRD in replacement. Also switched up the fogs for Rigid Industries. I've got a LONG ways to go until she's done, but the small things help. Oh, and pulled the hood scoop to wrap in matte black vinyl.

 

Not even slightly concerned about it. I'm well aware of what the truck can and cannot do but I've also done quite a bit to enhance its capability as well.

 

Do you have any pictures of what you got stuck in? I think you have unrealistic expectations of a stock truck on street tires.

 

They have Velcro on the back. Then I punch them into the headliner.

But for reals, they aren't on very tight because the 3rd gen headliners aren't really fibrous enough. If they start falling, then a new technique will be needed.

 

Not guessing anyone would be interested in a bilstein coil over setup huh? About 100 miles on them. 5100s with 888s. I ended up going with kings.

Installed Mobtown 1/4 aluminim skid plates... front skid,tranny skid and transfer skid



This install wasn't an easy task. After install which I had to get from other forum member because they were not shipped with instructions I had a loud rattle. Upon inspection I noticed my exhaust was rattling against the transfer case skid. Using a pry bar and a hydraulic jack I forced them down enough to give my self 1/8 of an inch clearance .

The photo shows just how much force was needed to force the skid plate down. Bolts were loose in case someone thinks they were tightened. Bent my pry bar with a hydraulic jack.
Other tools needed to complete this chore that instructions found on pdf did not mention were. Drill with 3/8 bit for support beam to attach to transfer skid plate, zip ties for the brake lines that now are not affixed to proper location due to the support beam coming in contact with the lines. 1k and 4 hours later its done. I spent less time installing my c4 fab lopro bumper. If I had it to do again I would pass. Infact I am going to replace them as soon as I can pocket another grand. Heads up for anyone in the market. Stay clear!!IMO...
Photo shows how I had to zip tie brake lines to avoid constant contact with fragile line. Also the main support beam is only held on by one pinch bolt on the edge of the 1/16 steel outer frame. Two holes on each side only one is used?

 

Did the transfer skid plate have an option to install it higher if the exhaust was rerouted? I will be rerouting my exhaust first.

 

Nothing there was a bunch of people out there.wanted to take a pic. But felt I'd be a Lil embarrassing, me jumping out a brand. Ew truck and snapping pics. All these other guys got built up rigs.and I was already tha Clown out there unprepared. I will say ,we were all suprised the distance I did get. The problem was,the ruts were all iced over a bit and I didn't expect after ice breaking,how deep it was..

 

I have a few Velcro patches on my headliner, and I've found with just sticking them on and moving them around so they get a better hold works really well. I haven't had any fall off as of yet. I need a few more to add to my collection though!

 

LOL yeaaaaaaaah sooooooo in reality it actually did awesome, you just tried to push it way beyond it's limits. Exactly as I suspected, thanks for the clarification.

 

Then you would complain it gets shit mpg. It's easily the most capable stock mid size truck you can buy. Get a wrangler maybe?

I agree offroading is 80% driver in my 40 years of driving experience. I use to dance around a Blazer with a 3+" lift and monster mudders. I had a F150 with Mud and snows.
