After I bought my new Plymouth Turismo in 1985 I would have lived on 'Turismo World' to tell people what a giant piece of crapola that thing was

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

    In a nutshell ....

I have had maybe a dozen Toyota trucks and my 2016 Tacoma has less issues than most of the others.

Had a Honda Ridgeline that was flawless, but too big and car like for my tastes. Ridgeline would be No. 1 ... IF ... I had a family, wanted super comfort, and did limited off road and wanted a more car like ride.

IMO .. Toyota and Honda make the best trucks.

well my short version is I had a 16 taco sport crew 4x4 last December. I don't know if I just didn't hang in there long enough but it hurt my back and legs I think to seat position. I got the Colorado Diesel in March crew z71. Off road the Tacoma is much better stock. Looks to me interior and exterior is win for taco. Room the Colorado is better. Seat is harder in Colorado but seat position seams to be able to be more comfortable and I made it work. I do not want full size again I really like driving the smaller truck. I still am mad at myself for not just trying to make it work on comfort in seat because so many say it is ok and I still like the taco better. My truck now has 24800 miles on it and no issues and average mpg is 28. My taco was 21. I was ok with 21 np issue at all. Im ok with 17 or 18. Didn't like the gasser in the chevy near as much is why I went diesel. As far as reliability I have always been a Toyota person and really have had no luck with the big three trucks. I am thinking hard about trading in my Colorado and trying one more time on Tacoma but not sure because if I hit same issue that would stink bad. As you said comfort is important and im in my truck 700 miles or more a week. Glad you like your truck.

Thanks for taking the time to write all this up.

I love my 3rd Gen, never have I enjoyed a vehicle so much since my 88YJ. There is a lot of subjective material here, anecdotes, etc so people will definitely experience different stuff. As such I think your MPG's will likely come back to reality over longer use.

I have the TRD OR which gets 17-20 and I get exactly 17-19. There are moments where I can get say 25 mpgs but that is only for a few miles, the tank as a whole averages about 19.5. The argument that people don't know how to drive is honestly quite silly. The first week of ownership I drove my truck 1000 miles round trip to Georgia whish is pretty much I-95 the whole time. and it averaged about 19 at 65 mph. I have noticed that at speeds in excess of 70mph the mpgs begin to decline observing mpgs around 17.5. Now this isn't me not knowing how to drive, this is almost 400 miles in 6th gear on the interstate, theres no mashing or aggressive driving, just cruising..

At the end of the day the tacoma has a 21 gallon tank and it is exceptional to go over 400 miles consistently on a tank. 400/21=19mpgs. But this depends on your config as well. Check out fuelly.com and see what people are reporting.

I've only had the truck for a few months. I had no idea what a rabbit hole I was going into when I joined TW. Its only going to get worse, I'm afraid!

    Buckle up. It gets worse.

And hide your wallet. You will be your own worst enemy.

I have a bumper coming in next week..God help me when my wife sees it.

"Honey, it always had a steel bumper. With welded recovery rings. And Rigids. Shit is factory."

The resale % of price paid and price sold is pretty even across most vehicles. Used Tacomas sell for a higher price in general but only because new Tacomas sell for a higher price. Your sale value declines the closer to MSRP you pay.

I had this discussion a long time ago with someone saying that Honda had better resale than a Ford but when we broke the numbers down, the resale was about the same, consumers just paid a higher initial cost for the Honda.
