Hi, I am new to posting on this forum but have read through it for years, so please bear with me. I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab V6 4x4 with a 5-speed manual transmission and manual locking hubs. I am having an extreme vibration at various speeds and I am unable to locate the source. I have had the tires rotated AND balanced twice at different locations and just balanced once again afterward at a different location from the first two. I have already replaced a bad ujoint, the carrier bearing, all oils and lubricants, ball joints, shocks, struts, wheel bearings, transmission mount, and regular tires. I have already checked the motor mounts (they were fine) as well as the body bushings (which I plan on replacing soon). I have also had the drive shaft balanced and still haven't had any luck. I don't think it's coming from either the transmission (R25) or the transfer case because I am having no difficulty shifting and have changed the oil which was clean as if it was new. I have never taken the truck off road but have replaced many parts on it due to the previous owner's carelessness. I use the truck as my daily driver and also to drive to college which is 3 hours from my home. I have been told that it could possibly be a warped rim but I am unsure if that would be a problem that would occur only at certain speeds. The vibration's pitch also seems to get deeper with the wheels locked and in 4WD. I am also posting a picture of the truck below to see if anyone is able to identify the model of the wheel I have. I know they are Enkei's.

Have you checked your control arm bushings?

I would try swapping wheels then but you would think that would show up during balancing. Another thing you may want to try is spacing your d/s down from the chassis in small increments at a time. Sometimes eliminating some of the angle can reduce harmonic effects on long driveshafts

I thought so too. I was thinking about trying to find another guy in town and giving it one more shot before a wheel swap.

Are they the same tires you are having balanced? You may have a bad belt in one also.

They are the same tires. I didn't think of that... I just purchased them but may take them tomorrow to have them looked at. Thanks!

Good luck man. I had a set of new tires once that would not balance to save my life. They called them good but the vibration would rattle my teeth. Some places call "close" good enough, especially if you did not buy them there. These are just some ideas, there are people on here that have far more info that is specific to these vehicles that I am sure will chime in and share their wealth of experience.

does it happen only in gear or neutral? or is it all the time?

It happens all the time and whenever the vehicle is moving between 35-75 MPH

I had a vibration issue like that as well and it turned out to be one of my u-joints, looks like you replaced them already though. you are lifted right?

It does have what I believe to be a 3" lift on the front and back.

do you have axle shims or a carrier bearing drop? sometimes you'll get vibes from the driveshaft angle.

I checked the driveshaft angles and had a perfect 0º difference between the angles of the transfer case, carrier bearing, and rear diff points after I replaced the transmission mount

hmm, not sure, sounds like you replaced just about everything that could possibly cause issues lol. does it sound/feel like its coming from a certain area? front end or rear end?

I feel as if it may be coming more from the rear end due to their not being too much movement in the steering wheel

I don't know if this would be a major vibration causing issue but do you think it could possibly be the body bushings?

I don't know how bad your vibes are but I don't think that'd be a cause because it happens at certain speeds, not over bumps and things. My brothers bushings are really bad and his truck hardly has any vibes at all. something with your rear diff maybe? was there a lot of shavings when you changed the oil? did you check your front driveshaft and u-joints too?

There weren't any shavings in the rear diff at all which was shocking to me. I figured to have at least a few specks come out. I also checked the front driveshaft as well as the cv axles and everything seemed fine
