Yeah. Here is my good friend Andy hatelys e30 with a supercharged ls3 v8. Pushing 640 hp. It's badass. He has built it from the ground up. He has qualified for pro 2 drift this year in it.

I had an 09 135 M package and traded it for the Tacoma. I would be lying if I say I don't miss that little beast. But the Tacoma is more practical and it holds its value better then a Beamer, eventhough the 1 series hold their value way better then the 3 or 5 series or the crappy 7 series.
The M3 E46 is a very nice and fun car but not rare and you can find a really nice one for a decent price. And as said above try to stay away from the SMG.

Got rid of a 2004 325i for my Taco, not an m3 but it was an e46. Just get ready to have huge maintenance bills if you do do it.

If I get an m3 then I'm doing everything I can by myself. Ill suffer through the hardest job before paying someone else to do it.

If you mean the 1M yup that's right, they are rare. The 135 are holding their value better then the 335 for example but no way near their original price tag.

I just traded up from an e46 m3 for the 17 OR and I regret nothing. The m3 had a long list of minor things that needed to get repaired. The car is awesome as a whole but if you care about the little things like the leather staying glued together or the headliner falling down or many other cosmetic things, then you will be doomed. It had almost 100K miles when I last drove it and it ran like a champ, but did not look so pretty. By the way, everything maintenance wise is stupid expensive.

How did you get the swap street legal in CA?... must be fun to drive. That's the tough part of CA is getting engine swaps certified at the inspection center for registration and be able to sell it...unless it's a track only car.

I prefer the E86 over the clown shoe.

Clown shoe just seems like more of a special car to me, more of a future classic. E86 is nice but i personally wouldn't hold onto it for years on end

I had 2001 3.0i Coupe so the parts are cheaper. I used high quality oil but not necessarily OEM, usually Mobil 1. But even at $1200 in parts, it saves a lot not paying another goodness only knows how much on labor.

Parts alone will cost a fortune, especially compared to Tacoma parts.

In California, you have to go thru BAR to get an engine exchange legal. BAR is like going to smog but a more in depth inspection. It includes visual to check all the parts that attach to the new engine is all there and smog to check if the engine and all sensors are running properly. All parts from the intake sensor to the catalytic converter has to be in stock form. If all that passes then the referee will issue you a BAR sticker stating your "Engine Exchange" is legal in the state of CA. If i can give any bit of advice for anyone that wants to tackle this sort of project: 1)Attention to detail (immaculate Work) 2)Make sure you use stock parts (any type of modification will fail you)

Both E30's were BAR'd, the e46 was ready for BAR but i got an itch to buy a Taco so a buddy of mine bought it as is. I'm sure he hot smogged it.

European cars are cash pits. If you disagree, then I would say you have been much luckier than me.

I had the privlege of dailying an M3 for a month and its not a good daily haha. First of all, putting that many miles on a performance car is just crazy. 2ndly its pretty unpractical as far as carrying people. But man that S54 is a beast, im a huge fan of bmw and their inline 6s. The 6 speed manual isnt that great but the smg is worse. But good luck finding a good condition manual one haha. The smg is odd and clunky but it doesnt ruin the car thats for sure. Id only get an m3 (or any performance car) if i had a good daily first.image.jpg

This, my BMW was paid off when I got rid of it, financing a Tacoma was cheaper than maintaining a BMW.

Plus parts need to be replaced much more often, they are geared towards performance not longevity. My 60k service on the BMW cost me a few grand.
