To make it simple. First check the IG1 NO2 Fuse it is rated at 10 amperes. Check the 50 ampere heater Fuse also. If both of those are good you should have 12 VDC at the blower on a black wire with a yellow stripe by my prints. You need a voltmeter set to read DC Voltage and then verify that you have 12 VDC at the Blower Fan on the Black wire with a yellow stripe. NOTE: This voltage will be there regardless of the fan speed selection. The ground is what is regulated through the resistor block.

    Hello All.

    I have a 2012 Tacoma.
I've been trying to solve a fan switch issue. I've read this whole thread, done a variety of tests and have come to a conclusion.

Symptom: Fan / blower will not work. Not on any speed.

I've checked the blower motor. It's good.
I've checked the resistor, it's fine.
I've checked the wiring harness that connects to the resistor. No burnt or discolored leads.

I've checked the wiring lead by the resistor and there is no power at the connector.

    So what to check next?
Where is the heater fuse located?
    - I've checked the fuses inside the cab.
    - Isn't there one in the main fuse area in the engine bay?

Is there are relay that could be sticking?

What about the in dash switch itself?
    - Could that be the problem?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

That' what I'm thinking. But isn't there a 50amp fuse in the engine bay fuse block?
What about a relay? I think there is one too.
I'm just trying to verify their locations before I start pulling on things .

    Thanks.

Someone may have a diagram of that. I have nothing for a 2012. Pop the cover on the fuse block,it should have them listed.

Yes there is a 50 ampere fuse in the engine bay called "Heater".

Perfect! I'll go check that this evening when I get home.
I'm still hopeful that the simplest solution is the correct one.

    Thank you.

Well my fan just started showing the same symptoms today for the first time! Glad to see it's such an easy fix. I may wiggle the wires there first as I was sitting in the passenger seat streatched out cleaning out the glove box this morning BEFORE I drove the vehicle. Either way it doesn't look like it's going to be a big deal! Yeeeeee Hawwwww

    Hello All.

I'd just like to post an update.
I checked the 50 amp fuse under the hood and it's good. I even swaped another 50 amp to see if that made a difference. Nope.

Then I swapped out the Heater Relay with a relay from another circuit, and the blower worked!

I guess the relay got tired...
I'll replace the relay, and be happy with my truck again!

Thanks for your help and motivation everyone.

Friday I took out my resistor and wiped the dust off it, clamped the pins on the wireside tighter, took the squirrel cage off of the motor and cleaned everything, then drove to Charleston. It lasted for most of the weekend and then started acting up again. Poking around with the wires to the resistor under the dash in the Target parking lot I noticed that the 2nd from the right wire was the bump and work resolution. For whatever reason I pushed it up onto the resistor more and it moved quite a bit and started working and it's been working all day since. Now that I think of it when I had the resistor out there was only some marking on the very end of the pins, like the connector never seated and made full contact with the pins.

tldr; Try and push the individual wires up through the plug onto the resistor pins. They might not be seating all the way up.

Followed the lead of the ones who came before as outlined above and I'm good to go !
    Thanks to all.

    Frito,

This is what you need to fix your problems with the blower: A new resistor assembly and a connector plug, with part numbers on the package. See image below.

    Plug Number 82141-04M40
    Resistor Number 87138-04052

Just wanted to let you guys know I have a 2013 and it was doing the same thing so I picked up a can of electrical cleaner spray unplugged the resistor and sprayed some of that in there and sprayed it out with the air compressor and works good as new again. Save yourself the money and try this before you go buying a new one! Hope this helps

Hey guys, I've been having the same problem, check my resistor plug and it is burned like, the rest. I also noticed that the 2 wire power plug that connects to the blower motor is also burned, and that the blower will start running again when you push on the plug.

Anyone have the part number for the power plug for the blower motor? It's the small 2 wire white plug that comes off the same wiring harness that the resistor plug comes off of.
