So, @Pugga , I just got done calculating my mileage from the trip to NY and back for my reimbursement from the company, and it turns out that the F150 averaged 17.6 mpg's for the trip. Apparently the 2.7EB is somewhat less efficient at 95mph than it is at 75, lol. But, I'm actually pretty impressed it did as well as it did, because we literally NEVER dropped below 85 once we hit 495, and were doing 90-95 for almost all of CT-15. I had a guy in a black Mercedes pass me just over the border, and I tucked in behind and chased him all the way to Tarrytown. I was working those turbos the whole way
Each trip took under 5 hours, and that was with two smoke breaks for my passengers and a stop at the NH liquor store in both directions  :burnrubber:

Nice! Did you read back a page or 2? I'm about this close | | to pulling the trigger on a tuner. Figure if I'm keeping this beast, I'm going to make it feel like I got a new truck :D Pretty sure I'm going to so it, it's in my shopping cart at the tuner's site, I just need to make that one last click to 'submit'.

What are the hp/tq gains with the tuner?

If you run a tuner with a high performance 93 octane custom tune at 5K RPMs, the dynos are showing 48 hp and 45 lb-ft gains. That being said, I use my truck as a truck, so the 87 octane tow /daily driver tunes I'll be using and in the RPM range I'll typically see, I would guess 5-10 hp and ft-lb.

I didn't. The snow we got today means that we've been slamming here at work (I just now got online for the first time all day), so I haven't had a chance to review from over the weekend yet.
Tuners are cool, especially if you don't have to worry about voiding a warranty, lol. I think they make a bigger difference with Diesels, though. Or boosted engines. Not sure they can do much for you since you've got an NA motor; how much does it cost?

Edit: Never mind; somebody already asked while I was writing this. :frusty:

You're right, the big gains are for boosted gas and diesel engines, the gains for a N/A gas engine are pretty modest. But, you can make truck much more responsive by making the shifting more intuitive and taking out the drive by wire lag. The biggest reviews are more transmission based than engine based it seems. I don't want to have to tow in manual mode anymore!
They're about $400 for the tuner and the custom tunes from a reputable shop. It's not cheap, I'm still on the fence about it.

On the other hand, you're less likely to smoke the intake or head gaskets with a NA motor. Most of the 'tuning' for boosted motors seems to involve increasing the turbo pressure and changing the timing.

That's my strategy for I-95 north of Old Town. Find someone going fast and keep it a mile or so behind them.

Except last time I kept finding people going 100+, so it didn't work as well. 85-90 in a 75 wouldn't be the end of the world if I got stopped. The speeds some of these people were doing would not be good to be caught at...not to mention the Tacoma isn't exactly a safe vehicle at those speeds.

I was pleasantly surprised with the F150. My Tacoma always felt like it was ready to get a little squirrely at 85-90 (and LOUD), but this truck was super planted and solid, and very quiet at speed; I actually touched 100 by accident a couple of times on the trip down, chasing cars that were going WAY too fast, and didn't notice it until I looked at the speedometer and dropped back down to 90-ish again. And it still had plenty of power on tap. I was never worried about it running out of breath, so to speak.

The GF's Mustang would have been a better choice, of course, but seating 4 people in it comfortably would have been challenging.

You're not kidding. The first time I was on it I did 65 (since the posted limit was 55) and almost got rear-ended 6 or 7 times before I caught on and started chasing people, lol. Last year we rented an Impala that was a real rocket ship and would do 95 all day. I was kind of hesitant taking the F150 because I knew we were going to be doing those speeds, but it worked out pretty well. However, the Impala averaged 32-33mpg's and the Truck averaged about half of that, lol.

Since I've put the exhaust on my truck, my highway MPGs have increased a little.

Had a State cop on a road job once and he said they don't have a lot of radar traps on that road. He said there's not many safe places to set up and pull people over.
It's a pretty hairy road down my way. I used to be on it to get to work at 5:30 am. No lights , people screaming by at 90mph and throw crossing deer in the mix.

Holy crap, yes. Deer everywhere. Dead ones all over the shoulder/median, and live ones off a little further from the road. I must've seen 30 sub-90lb deer on this trip.

    The deed is done :anonymous:

I had it in 2 carts, one with each of the tuners I had narrowed it down my search to.
