It is in my good opinion that if someone is getting 13-15 MPGs on a stock v6 there are issues. (either that or they have a lead foot)

If it was to happen to me, I would take it to the dealer and complain. I would make them prove that the truck truely performs the MPG that was on the sticker when bought. If they can't obtain that MPG, then the truck will fall under the 8 year emissions warranty.

After which, they can either "give you a new engine" or a new truck. And if they don't want to, lawyer up.

Remember, you are buying an item with specifications. If that item can't reach those specs. then you got ripped off.

I'm no English professor... but your post below looks directly like you were calling BS on OP...

    Sorry for the misinterpretation...

Seems to me, in order for TacoRD16 to have been calling the OP a liar his sentence would have to have read, "I find it hard to believe [that your problem is real because] I haven't seen anyone else claiming they smelled gasoline." Which of course makes no sense.

How I interpreted his post was that he didn't believe it was a widespread problem because he hadn't seen anyone else complaining about a gas smell. I really don't see any way to view it as calling BS on the OP.

I could understand the interpretation that TacoRD16 was calling BS on what the tech said about what the factory rep said (that it was a widespread problem and all injectors and seals should be replaced immediately). But this is still not an attack on the OP's thread.

I brought mine for the 20k service and mentioned I smelled gas sometimes, the Service Advisor told me that "everything is fine, its normal for Tacoma's to smell like gas under the hood sometimes, especially the manual trans ones".

I kept smelling gas, got to the point where I would smell it in the cab at stop lights. After reading some similar stories on here I put some UV dye in the tank and the DI fittings lit up like a christmas tree after 20 miles of driving. I couldnt identify where the leak was coming from, it seemed to be coming from the fuel pressure sensor or the connection on the bank 2 DI fuel rail.

There was even a trail of dye down the bellhousing. I took it in today, told them it was leaking, said I put dye in and confirmed the leak myself, they said the tech confirmed there definitely is a leak (duh) and kept the truck, they had no information on what exactly the issue is yet but I will press for answers what part was faulty.

Man... of all of the things to dismiss when a customer mentions it, the smell of fuel has to be the worst.

Yeah, he even said they had their Master Tech look at it and he said it was normal...

At first it was faint and I would only notice it when walking past the hood right after driving it home. After he wrote it off as normal I just drove around and didnt know if it was the EVAP emissions venting or something coming out from the intake since I only started to notice it after it got cold out.... but once I started smelling it in the cab while sitting at lights I knew something was definitely wrong.

My MPGs only went from 19.5 in summer to 17.5 in winter, so there was no major drop that would have concerned me either.

I am a Toyota fan boy. I own three at the moment (taco tundra fj) and owned three other Toyota trucks in the past.

I love them but Toyota dealership service departments are the scum of the earth. I have been blown off so many times that I ref use to even take a problem to a dealer unless there is a TSB or recall already in the system. I just use TW to trouble shoot problems. Fucking morons.
