NW WA Meet / BS Thread

Just found out this morning that WSDOT uses magnesium chloride on the roads and passes here. I thought the state would be a little more earth conscious!
I don't have my frame protected because I heard from many people (who turned out to be full of shit) that salt isn't used here. Have you guys been coating your frames in PNW?

That stuff is highly soluble with water, and the amount of rain we get I think it would have a minimal effect with extra frame rust.

I went to auto zone and bought 8 cans of 3m rubberized coating in a spray can. I've used it on the 4runner and the Tacoma. No rust visible after all these years. You need to reapply on areas that get pelted by the tires every couple of years.

Thanks for info! How Did you prep and remove surface rust? Is there anyone on here that lives up here and hasn't coated their frame? I would think a coat pressure washing every couple of weeks would help prevent damage since our roads aren't like the North East.

I work on cars up here, and haven't noticed problem rust on customer cars. I know our frames are known to be particularly bad, but wondering if it actually will be a problem. 2015 is too new to tell if the problem is still around with the later frames

 

My dad used to have the 6 wheel version of that. It was insane..

Oh you went the opposite way! Instead of going to the right take the down hill to the left, when it T's make a left then the first right. Goes to the top of the mountain. That ends in a little turn around area, nothing special

 

I thought you had a Pinsguaer or something like that???

 

Yeah they are pretty much identical. Very minor changes but no one knows what a Pinzgauer is lol
