This is just a head check... What is the actual difference between a Tacoma Pro, and a similarly equipped TRD OR? What is the price difference? Is it really worth trading the TRD OR in for the PRO? At the end of the day, neither are off road race vehicles. They are heavy, consumer grade vehicles that break very easily from moderate abuse. That said, I have a TRD OR, and I am very happy with it.

Other than cosmetics, the only beneficial difference is that the trd pro has TRD-tuned high-performance FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks, also trd pro cat back exhaust.

Basically the only thing the trd pro can do that the off road can't, is high speed desert racing. That's what it is made for so that the shocks don't overheat.

From what I've heard, the pro drives pretty well on the street as well.

Starting msrp for off road is 31,740 while the pro is 40,760. (With no options)

This is pretty misleading. The TRD Pro has ALL the options standard.

Cannot get the Tech/Premium package or JBL with the pro either. Basically it's shocks and some cosmetic stuff. Frankly, the better route in my opinion is to buy a fully loaded OR and add the suspension(better suspension at that) and you'll be much better off.

That's true, I think the only thing that changes the price is when you opt for the auto transmission, then the price goes up.

I know JBL you can't get on the Pro but I think the Pro has tech/prem plus leather. Also, as far as suspension being better on the OR, that's subjective. I drove the Sport, OR and Pro. My opinion is that the drive was better in this order Pro, Sport and OR. This was on pavement and again subjective.

The Pro comes with everything in those packages.

It has all of that except for the moonroof. It also has JBL audio and leather interior.

Which is why people buy the OR in order to turn it into one.

    Short Answer is: No.

The Pro really only gets a skid plate and a slightly better suspension. You gain leather seats and lose a moonroof.

they should have put a supercharger in the Pro, that would get my attention.

Makes sense. I can see people desiring to modify their TRD OR, but why trade the truck in for the PRO? This seems like a good way to toss money out the window.

Exactly. Frankly, you want leather, pretty inexpensive to add leather. Even with the Fox suspension, aftermarket options are much better.

OP you need to ask yourself what you want to do with the truck. If it's just aesthetics with minimal to no off roading then the Sport or even SR5. If it's off-roading but don't wanna do upgrades yourself then the Pro. If you plan on serious off-roading and heavy modding then any of the others except Pro. You will pay more for the Pro but it has the best of the Sport and OR combined into one. Also, although I don't put too much credence on resale, just like any vehicles if you mod it yourself, you will not recoup most, if any at all, the money and time invested. Whereas the Pro will have a higher resale. These are all things you can look up.

Shortly after they announced the PRO, I placed an order for one even though I have a '16 OR. The more I read into what is all included with the PRO package, I cancelled my order for it. IMO, it isn't worth the "upgrade" to a PRO if you plan on changing out the suspension, tires, etc...which is what I know I'd end up doing anyways. I also like having my JBL stereo and sunroof (which may or may not have any value to you).

people have said they got what they paid for trade in. (if thats true) Then its no money loss. Plus the pro will have a higher resale value.

    OR with mods > Pro

But if you have the cash, the pro is pretty sweet.

I understand. I just don't see the PRO doing much more than my TRDOR (Maybe the shocks can take a little more heat. At the end of the day, neither my TRD OR or the PRO could do "serious", bashing off road, right? They are more like very capable 4WD trucks right?

Fair enough, but remember there are 4 squares on that profit sheet..... Trade in allowance is just one of them.

Depends on what you're doing but short answer is probably not. You should keep the OR if it does what you need it to do.
