Thanks, I did look up the Gerber knife on Amazon and compared them, with this being the most important question someone asked =>

    Question: is the blade stainless?

    Answers:

1.) Yes the blade is stainless, however it doesn't take a good edge as it is a 'mystery steel' so I have no idea what exactly it is.. I recommend the Kershaw skyline/spyderco tenacious. Both are wicked sharp, stainless, and around 30$

By techy on February 14, 2014
2.) It's coated and thin in areas so hard to answer. Could be a titanium because it's so light. I've had it a while and it's been really tough. I work for a nascar team and use it when needed and I absolutely love the knife. I'm happy o chose this one. Sorry couldn't help more.

3.) Yes but it is coated.

Gerber knives: A baby food company that makes sharp objects!

Just say no to Gerber. They have a couple "okay" knives but for the price go with something that's actually made in America like Ka-Bar/Becker, Esee, Benchmade or Spyderco.

Look... With steel you seriously get what you pay for. If you want a cheap knife then buy a box cutter.

Knives?....I like knives. Especially fixed blade survival style.

I have a Gerber LMK II ASEK back before they changed the steel. It's ok. For the price I like my ESEE-4 better. I have my eye on a couple knives from Survive, but I think I might take a swing at making my own.

Modding/making knives, FTW! For fixed blades I pretty much stick to Becker. Hard to beat the price point. The BK16 is a great all-around knife but the BK2 is a beast.
Those Survive Knives are sweet but yeah, making one would be fun. You've got every tool imaginable at your disposal so I'm sure you could come up with something awesome.

I get the gerbers arent the best knives, but you are comparing the $65 ka-Bar to a $10 gerber. I have been hunting and fishing and my $10-15 Gerbers knives haven't let me down yet.

I recommend using NJ Steel Baron for knife steels if you end up rolling your own.

Are their floor jacks and jack stands any good? I'm planning on picking some up.

Just bought 3 ton jack, 40" poly creeper and 6 ton jack stands from HF yesterday.

I also looked at Sears which has a similar set up- for LESS (90 bucks total!) But their creeper, AND jack look lesser quality. Their jack did not have good reviews. For the money, maybe its OK.

Decided to stick with HF, and upgraded to 6 ton stands. Used the 20% coupon, making them $40.00. Better percieved value for my needs.

My last Crapsman jack collapsed one wheel then twisted and dropped the car.

I hate to say it, but I have far less confidence in a Craftsman item than damn near any other.

I have Craftsman hand tools, but I'd never buy their jacks or jack stands, or any power equipment.

Honestly- it looked junky compared to same thing at HF.

I did like the Craftsman handtools.

Sears is dying in the vine. Craftsman is being licensed out to other retailers. Likely cheaper to make in china, and lifetime warranty/replace as needed. Same as HF, right??

I was just typing that and then went to another thread.

I see a Craftsman branded power tool and it's less costly than a HF (or other equivalent), and it feels like more of a piece of shit than the HF (or other equivalent), then in my mind.. it's a cheap piece of junk with a Craftsman sticker.

After so many years of that, Craftsman power tools, in my mind.. are shite. My FIL has a new Craftsman table saw.. I'd never even consider one with their name on it.

Craftsman has just become another brand in the consumer market.

If there is a deal on a specific tool/ chest configuration, etc that works for you, from either retailer- get it.

I have a ton of HF tools: compressor, jack stands, pneumatic impact gun, impact sockets, tool chest, various hand tools, etc.

The only thing I have that I would NOT buy again is this work bench: . I screwed it to the studs in my wall and it is still wobbly as all hell. Yes, I knew what I was buying but i needed something quick and cheap. That being said i've had it for about 2 years and it hasn't totally fallen apart yet.
