Dude stop with the ignorant posts, there have been more issues by more than 55 people across the country for all sorts of things, that is clear to anyone that is a member here. Posts like this only make your argument seem even more idiotic.

Where I live and work, trucks are seen as lower socio economic people's rides.

So no one ever questions what I paid for the truck. They assume 10-15K is what Tacomas cost. One of my family members who visited asked me, and I said $42,000. Nothing about full-size. Said "why not get a BMW for that price."

I pay for my toys myself, so my self esteem isn't tied to other people's opinions :)

Additionally, I get enough hate from the turd gen forum "OMG why didn't you buy a SR5 and mod it, instead of paying money for a PRO???"

If our own people can hate us, of course outsiders will hate...

I've had 6 of them, though I question my 3rd gen from time to time just based on the issues I've had with my 16 (17 is good so far at 500 miles lol). I still wouldn't buy anything else except maybe a new raptor.

I get that all the time bro, that's why I also have a Cummins.

Plus not sure what full size you're going to get for 24.4k

Ya anyone outside the truck world or always been a domestic guy thinks these trucks are cheap little toy trucks. Bahaha.

I wanted the smaller size "mid sized" truck because it's a bit better for getting in and out of backwoods trails, unmaintained ranch and forest roads which are overgrown for access when hunting and camping. The bed is just more convenient and we already have a 2016 4Runner so I don't want nor need two of them. Don't care for the driving experience of the new Tacoma (thought it would get better with mileage to no avail). I do like the interior which I feel is superior to the GM Twins. The F-150 is stepping up its game in styling and the Silverado has always been one of the better looking trucks on the market (my own opinion)...I may go back to the full size eventually but am waiting to see what Ford comes out with for the new Ranger. If it looks like a ridgeline, I'm out and probably back to a full size.

Funny how people's fears about how others will perceive them shape their life/decisions. Some years ago I had a BMW 335i coupe, 6MT, loaded just right. Met some folks from home country who found out what I paid for it and were shocked that I didn't buy a 5-series or a slightly older 7-series for the same money. They just couldn't comprehend wanting a vehicle for something other than perceived status.

In LA/NYC people are driving in M4/M3/Alpina B7 all day.

When I go to the midwest, people will say "OMG for m3 money you can buy a 7 series."

Can't blame the ignorant. Plenty of them on car forums alone. Can't expect the rest of the world who are not into cars to understand...

If they built trucks like Toyota does they would still have jobs.

I have a Tacoma because it's my do-everything vechicle, including daily driver (50 miles round trip) . Doing that every day in a Tundra or F-150 just seems stupid to me

What those GM, Ford and Chrysler guys really were saying is: "why aren't you helping pay my UAW dues and pension by buying a piece of crap?" "You will have the opportunity to spend lots and lots over the lifetime of a fullsize POS"

Ummm, no thanks, had my fill in the 80's and 90's.

Yes, you could probably get a new basic Ram for the same price as a new Tacoma with a few more options. Fast forward 5 years and add up the repairs to the Ram vs the Tacoma and the cost of the fullsize takes off like a rocket. I bought my Tacoma in 2010 a month before my friend bought his first diesel Ram. After a blown turbo and transmission he bought a gasoline RAM since the price was cheaper than the Chevy and Ford. Last month after another transmission meltdown and electronics not working he had it and finally bought a Ford F-150 King Ranch with everything but a toilet and drinking fountain. Money grows on trees for him but he still wants the most for the money. I told him to buy a Tundra but it doesn't have enough doo-dads/bells/whistles for his liking. Hell, it's important to be able to change the color of all the interior LED lights from a touch panel. I'm finally jealous of his truck but I wasn't with the 2 Rams. My Tacoma outlasted 2 of his trucks and is now on the 3rd. I'm sure with the Eco turbo on the Ford mine will still outlast his engine. Turbos wear gasoline engines out faster.

In fact I went the "Buy Big 3" route in 2006, bought a brand new Dodge Caravan with 1st kid. It DIED on the Interstate at 70 MPG on our first trip out of state with <1000 miles on it. The windshield LEAKED like a sieve on that same trip. Took it to the dealer, they said couldn't find anything wrong, and they would try to reseal the windshield. Took it straight to the Honda place and traded for a new Odyssey, got raped on the trade-in but didn't care. Never again.

I hear the Ford forums are filled w/ people whose Eco-boost turbos shit the bed at 100-120k miles.

A few posts up I mentioned previously owning a BMW 335i (twin turbo). Those cars' turbos always went around 120k km, and replacing them is 17-hours of labour. I wish I was joking. And then you had the high pressure fuel pumps failing, injectors failing, headlights leaking water ($2k/pop), and all kinds of other problems. I loved that car, but I was happy to sell it before anything serious happened.

My '06 ML 350 had the notorious "balance shaft issue" (a sprocket somewhere deep inside wore out prematurely and had to be replaced) that plagued every single V6 Mercedes manufactured between 2006 and 2008 - that's a ~$8000 job at the dealer. Class-action lawsuits and everything.

Want to guess why I chose a Toyota for my next vehicle? ;)

Folks and I rented a brand new Dodge Grand Caravan around ~2003-2004 and went on a two-week road trip to Alaska (100% highway driving). That thing was falling apart when we brought it back. LOL.

1st off- you are free to buy whatever you want. Everyone on this planet is more than willing to take your money. With that said...

This truck I built is a run of the mill 5 year old (75,000 miles) Crew Cab Silverado Z71 4x4 LT with the basic options. This truck probably had a sticker price of around $42-44,000 but realistically sold for around $36-38,000 after rebates and dealer discounts. 5 years and 75,000 miles later the trade-in value is $20,000-$23,000. Private party is about $24,000. That means it is sitting at about 2/3rds of it's original value. Not 1/3rd. Huge difference.

    https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/silve...6520380|true|5044002|true&condition=very-good

I did the same exact test for a Tacoma. It was a 2013 TRD OR Tacoma with 75,000 miles and some of the more common options. This truck probably sold for about 36k as well.

Trade in value is $22,000-$24,500 with private party at $25,000. Again, this is about 2/3rds of the original price. Yeah, it is about $1,000 more in value than the Silverado. But with all things considered and this huge reputation for amazing resale, how does $1000 difference make it worth all that?

    https://www.kbb.com/toyota/tacoma-d...6384461|true|5103888|true&condition=very-good

As for reliability... well, that's a very debatable subject with this truck.

Eco-Boost are win-win for FORD, not the consumer. It helps their CAFE rating and they get a revenue stream when the turbo(s) blow. I never had a FORD transmission go past 100k even with fluid changes, so now they get both.
