where i live in North Texas, full size trucks like the F150 are not really the Bro mobiles we think of on this forum as full sized. you need a lifted F250 minimum with 6"+ lift or dual rear wheels, etc. the only folks around me who even really consider my Tacoma a truck are other Taco drivers.

and no, i'm not really kidding. Texas is Bro freakin crazy with lifted loud K02 or Mud tire pickups.

I guess size doesn't compare to quality.

So true. My minivan days are over thank heavens. My POS Chrysler ate 2 transmission - one at 27K and the other at 58K. At 66K it was acting up again and that's when I didn't need it any more and bought a 4Runner. My son still drives my 1997 4Runner with almost 300K. No transmission or internal engine issues.

My 1st 4Runner is a 1996 SR-5, my brother in law now has it as his daily driver, he got it when his FORD died after it's 2nd motor and transmission failure, the 4Runner has 330,000 with original engine, no re-build. The transmission had to be re-built after he tried to change the transmission fluid himself and over-filled it, blew out every seal.

    As for reliability comparisons:

    Edmunds user reviews:

2016 Tacoma- 3.5 stars overall. 4 stars in reliability.
    https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2016/consumer-reviews.html?sub=double-cab

2016 Colorado- 4 stars overall. 4.5 stars in reliability.
    https://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/colorado/2016/consumer-reviews.html?sub=crew-cab

2016 Silverado- 4 stars overall. 4 stars reliability.
    https://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/silverado-1500/2016/consumer-reviews.html?sub=double-cab

    2016 F-150- 4.5 stars overall. 4.5 stars reliability.
    https://www.edmunds.com/ford/f-150/2016/consumer-reviews.html?sub=supercrew

2016 Nissan Fronteir- 4.5 stars overall. 5 stars reliability.
    https://www.edmunds.com/nissan/frontier/2016/consumer-reviews.html?sub=crew-cab

    Consumer Reports:
"The redesigned Tacoma pickup was unreliable in its first year, and it took three years after being redesigned for the Ford Escape to improve to average reliability."
    http://www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability/car-reliability-survey-2016/

So this doesn't exactly show the Tacoma as some superstar of reliability. At least not the new model.

The roads and pahking are narrow around here, so I've got zero interest in a full sized.

Exactly why I bought my 2016 4Runner trail edition. The trail edition is the same as a Trd pro inside the cabin. I wanted a new Tacoma sooooo bad but the 4Runner TE blew it out of the water as far as the interior goes and the 4.0 was so much nicer to drive imo

Ask your buddies which full-size (half-ton) has the MANual transmission... None is the answer, and that was a deal breaker for me. I know you can still get one in the Ram 2500/3500 if you opt for the Cummins, but that's a lot more pesos than a Taco.

There's nothing like personal experience. Back when I had domestics, they always had JD Powers awards. Still POS. Good luck to them. And my Tacoma and Odyssey are made in the Southeast where I call home, good enough for me.

Was your 17 built in the same place as your 16? Also I noticed your 16 had the long bed and now you chose to go with the short bed... what made you change your mind?

The new raptor is pretty nice. Only thing stopping me from considering it is the price. Starting at about 49,520 and goes up to over 70k, no thanks...I'd rather have a trd pro.

Didn't know that, but then again the only thing I looked at on the dodge lot was the over priced jeeps.

I pointed that out in my post. However, Dodge/Rams has them in their HD series - not your standard run of the mill Full-Size which is a Half-Ton. HD's cost a lot more (typically) than a Taco.

I'm not saying the new tacoma doesn't have issues, but considering the 2009 has more issues than the 2016 and the 2009 was on its 4th year of that generation and the 2016 is on its first, I would say that isn't bad at all.

The truth of the matter is no vehicle is perfect, they're all going to have issues.
