Alright guys, I'm wanting to get my father an sye for his jeep for Christmas. I know brands are better than others. He's got an 03 tj. Im no longer in the "in crowd" obviously with my tacoma I dont focus much on jeeps any more.

I am staying away from the hack n tap style. We can tear into the transfer case no problem. Any brands better than others? Its been years sense I've done much research or reading on them. Curious if anything new and top notch has hit the market lately?
I know there is a few of you who live that criss cross life and know what hot for these things.

Btw, he's on a 4 inch lift and currently building a Dana 44 rear, with locker and disc brakes. Not that it matters because we will source the driveshaft later I just want to get something quality. Its the first time I've had some extra cash to throw his way in a few years for Christmas sense I've been paying for college.

I'm in much the same boat, been years since I had a Heep. Being a TJ and JKs have been around almost 10 years, I'd doubt there has been much TJ love and advancement lately. Probably check the familiar places (RubiconExpress, Advance Adapters, Tera Flex) and see if they are still around or changed hands to much.

Jeeps.net is run by the same crowd that runs it over here. Not as many people but it's growing, and they can be really helpful.

JKOwners was started by Pirate4x4, so was very helpful when I was on it.

There is one owned by Eddie of "WayALife" or something like that. Very much to avoid, no negatives towards sponsors and similar underhandedness.

My dad 97 TJ crawler was running an Advanced Adapters short SYE with a JE Reel shafts until he blew up the tara low kit in it and replaced it with twin stick atlas.

I put an Advanced Adaptors SYE in my old Cherokee. Then a Tom Woods Drive shaft.

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with the hack-n-tap, as long as it's installed properly. I've been running one in my other Jeep ('97 XJ) for 6 years now with no problems. And I recently installed one in a coworker's '91 YJ with a Tattons driveshaft.

Can we start a "recovering jeep owners thread"? curious how many Tacoma owners simply. are. over. "It".
Spend enough time on those forums and you get jaded. It'll change a man. Its like prison but with a bunch of pretentious old men who either have too much money or talk trash to those who do. and no matter what, they'll tell you why you put the wrong parts on your Wrangler because you didnt use XYZ brand.

ANYWAY, talk to the guys at Off Road Evolution, Gen Right, Northridge 4X4. there is still A LOT of TJ love out there.

While I think the hack n tap versions are fine and are plenty okay and have seen them work great for many years.... Sometimes you just can't get an old dog to listen to a pup.... Which is fine. God forbid I persuade him and Something shitty happens.... Lol.

Plus I get to work on his transfer case ;) it took some persuasion to get him this far. (He's all about investment $$$ even though he is set....) so I'll keep helping him so it his way.

One of these days I'll swap an actual SYE into my XJ. I didn't have a lot of funds at the time and the stock driveline vibes were out of control so I went with the hack-n-tap. Nice thing was that I could use a stock front XJ driveshaft on the rear after I did it.

Yeah, I remember that being an option on the xjs. I think I'm gonna go with the advance adapters kit. Its 100% USA. Not imported parts and assembled to a kit here in the USA like the others.

Eddie has a nice rig I'm actually doing much of what he has...but I would avoid wayalife. If you plan on doing anything but evo mfg he and others on the forum get on their high horse and voice there opinion on how shitty everything else is. He does have some real nice videos on YouTube though.
