YES. I just traded my 2014 TRD OR DCSB for a 2017 TRD OR DCSB this past Saturday. The new truck is superior in every way, and I'm not looking back!!!

I love mine, no complaints. Seems like everyone expects a Tacoma to be perfect. All these complaints on lack of power-yea guess what its a small V6 and shifting issues-I havent noticed anything on mine. My vote is YES

Thank you folks for making me feel a lot better about pulling the trigger on my new Tacoma. I knew about the AT shift issues going into this but the one coming in has a software upgrade that supposedly fixes the issue? So I'm told. Be nice to have a new rig after 15 years. I'll keep and baby the Gen 1 for awhile. Think I'll get the interior detailed out.

lotuscupcar...............In Los Angeles I'd try to find a Prerunner unless you want to go to the Mountains, Desert or Baja to run around. But if and when I sell I'll text ya.

I am happy with mine. I think it is pretty peppy. I also think the trans shifts well, and a 6 speed is going to shift more than an older 4 or 5 speed automatic. There is no way around it, and nothing wrong with it. Mine shifts some between 4-5-6 on hills on the highway. Usually between 5-6. It has more gears = it may shift more.

I think this is an excellent point Josh regarding the shift "issue" on the 2016-17. Indeed, on a hill under load I can see 4-6 shifts but here's a question for you..........have you used the ECT Power button to reduce those shifts and impacts on the wear and tear on the AT? For you mechanics, am I totally off on this? On this subject I might have missed the thread if there was one on this?

Yes. I think it shifts fine. I think the shifting is for better fuel demanded by the EPA (government). It's probably only going to get worse with the effort to get better fuel economy. Hope this engine is reliable as your old one

YES!! My first Tacoma & first "new" truck since 1997. Only 2600 miles but I love it so far. I have a Chevy Equinox company car (not a real comparison I know) and its a DOG compared to my Taco.

The reliability numbers on all vehicles take a hit when a new model is introduced. While the '16-'17 Tacoma is not a 100% new it still requires Toyota to make changes to its assemble and manufacturing lines. As a result issues will always be more common the first couple years of a new model. It's the risk you take being an early adopter.

I have played with the ECT button a little and it does seem to hold the gears longer. I have zero issues with how the shifts are around town, it holds the gears fine and I don't find it shifting or hunting at all.
On the highway I don't feel it shifts a lot or hints at all. I will say that the transmission does find the highest gear, then shifts to a lower gear when it needs to, and another lower if necessary. It does not drop down into 4th that often or without throttle input from me.

I don't think this is causing any extra wear. With six forward speeds the transmission is going to shift more than a transmission with less gears. I'm ok with it.
I am also feel I am a fairly picky driver/ owner, so I feel that if it was hunting for gears or not upshifting or downshifting I would not be happy at all.

Overall I am pretty happy. I came out of a full size Chevy, before that three separate diesel trucks going back over the last 18 years. I wanted a smaller truck that works well and holds its value.

I don't think this truck shifts that much more than my Chevy, which had a 4l60 transmission that has four forward speeds.

yes, especially coming from a newer full size Sierra with shifting issues and multiple problems...I would definitely buy another Tacoma! At first the Tacoma had some shifting issues but as I put some miles on it adapted to my driving and has gotten better. Also, if need be I will switch to the ECT mode for better response.

My 69 year old wife is having a little trouble getting in my 16 taco. I might look at a Honda Ridgeline which is faster, more practical and very comfortable for older people. The taco is able to pull more although I have never pulled more than around 3000 pounds. I thought I would buy a 5000 pound travel trailer but I think now that that probably won't happen. Honda seems to make what people need and Toyota makes more what people want. I love the taco.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    ...^^^... Yes

Had 10-12 Toyota trucks in the past and this 2016 has been relatively problem free. Maybe 1 of the 2 most problem free.

    Mine is a ... SR5, 4x2, AC/LB, V6, Auto., Tow, with a few other options.

Simple truck to drive with simple mechanical components to service.

I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

PS ... Had a Ridgeline (4x4) and loved it and it was problem free, and super plush compared to the Taco.

It was just too big and not "truck like" enough for me.
