I got the material at Princess Auto. You should be able to buy it by the 4' wide foot off the roll. I got the thinner material, like 1/8" I think. You don't want it too thick or its hard to work with ant the plastic screw/clips I used won't work. Here are the full scale scanned templates for the first gen if anyone wants them. You would need to take the PDF to a blueprint shop and make sure they print them full 1 to 1 scale.

    And here is a tif:

Let me know if you have any trouble with the links.

I used a punch set to make the holes.

Nice. Was gonna ask you about those clips too. And the rest, more than I could ask for! Thanks for the info! But yeah, I saw Wal-Mart has that stuff and it's the same, 1/8 thick. Sweet. Gonna be doing this. Not sure about a shop to print out the template. May just try it myself. I've got lots of thin cardboard sheets perfect for making templates.

This is probably the simplest mod I've done, but it's been by far the most useful. I apologize for the crappy pic. How does one take a picture of their phone if their phone is their camera...

I assume you mean CB? I actually made it specifically for my phone since I use Google maps and Spotify frequently. My CB clip is where the clock would be on a TRD. Not sure if the 01 has these style cup holders? You could adapt it for the CB if you wanted to avoid drilling into your interior. It's made out of a nail plate with magnets and some felt. I have a metal strip in my phone case that secure the phone to the magnet.

    Can I play?

I don't have a 1st gen, but I have a 3rd gen 4runner. Since some of the 1st gen mods will work for 3rd gen mods, I am here to steal ideas.

I've been meaning to replace the wheel well mudflap retainers. How did you remove the old ones? Where did you get these?

    Where, had been mentioned;)
I found a bunch of stuff available at Wal-Mart. Just type in 'rubbercal'. There's a few different types of material in different lengths, including the diamond plate, and also a "coin" style pattern that looks nice too. Diamond seems to be the cheapest and thickest(although still thin, others are very thin). I will be getting the diamond I think. Also want to coat the wheel wells too beforehand. Probably with a rattle can type undercoating. Or with bedliner with a roller. Idk yet. But mine are all faded.

Your local hardware store might carry the sheets too in rolls that can be cut to desired length. Haven't checked my stores yet. But they are far away so I'll probly order it.

And the oem ones are held in with plastic tabs. It looks like alphabravo drilled separate holes to allow a larger pattern, with those Honda screw clips. @alphabravo ?

Oh I meant JUST the retainers, 50% of the ones on mine suspiciously all broke off after I got the tires changed. I bought some trim retainers, but they don't seem to work without having access to the back of the wheel well, and you can't really fit your hand in there. If these retainers are as simply as pushing them into the hole I'll pick them up.

Oh Ha. Yeah I'm waiting for confirmation on that too. Pretty sure he drilled additional holes. The ones he has are better tho. They squeeze in and are tightened with a Philips head. Easier than trying to pry ours out and breaking half of them. You might find some that'll fit the original holes like that. Try clipsandfasteners.com I think it is.
