There's no such thing as "void the factory warranty" in the sense where the warranty is a monolithic thing where soldering to a wire or changing a suspension component voids all coverage.

*IF* you should have a problem *and* it's reasonably provable that your add on / modification *caused* the problem, then they may not cover the problem. Problem with your differential and you've added a remote starter? No connection, no issue. If you encounter a problem that might be related, just remove this and see if the problem persists. Then take it in. These guys are using stuff thats on tons of brands and models with no problems.

I had a remote starter installed on Friday for my 2017 TRD OR, 2500ft of range (Compustar Slice Jr) with lock, unlock, and engine start. Engine shuts off after 2 seconds that any door is open. Paid $425 OTD at a reputable shop, the installer Nick was named one of the Top 50 installers in the United States and I would recommend him to anyone the CT/Mass area. He is located in West Springfield, MA.

Yes the truck shuts off and you have to restart it. Yes, it may be a pain. But it sure was nice getting in a warm truck this morning with some snow on the ground and cold temps! :)

$425 was still $120 cheaper than anywhere in my area where I live!

I park my truck pretty far from my building so a long range was needed and the factory remote is insufficient. People in my area spend $400 on remote starters for 800ft range remotes... I'm not sure why people are complaining about $130 though. Living in the Northeast, I'll get good use out of it and I keep my vehicles for a long time, the Tacoma will not be an exception. Not too worried about it.

Didn't mean anything bad about what you paid. Remote starts are expensive. Problem is once you have one your spoiled fooooorrreeeevvveeerr

    Placed my order.
Just installed one(also dball)on my wife's rx350, very cool feature, but i sure hated taking half the dashboard off.
What's the consensus on soldering as opposed crimping? I went ahead and soldered

I don't know that you'll ever get a true consensus on any automotive topic, but here are my thoughts from my many years of working on my cars and trucks and motorcycles. Just *my* opinions and others are welcome to have different opinions.

I've never had a connection fail where I'd properly soldered and secured it. However it can be a royal pain in the azz to do a properly soldered connection. I hate electrical tape, especially after it's been on a vehicle a couple years, and thus strongly prefer shrinkwrap where possible and and liquid tape where it isn't. Vampire taps can work okay provided you use good quality taps, ensure the proper size and proper installation, and use them in a protected environment. I'd rank Posi-Taps as best for this, with 3M T-Taps following. If using either, make sure the leads are secured (I use small zip ties) to prevent as much vibration as possible.

    Excellent input!!

We're supplying the kits with 3M taps, but the customers certainly have the option of soldering if they want.

I've ordered and it can't come fast enough. It's cold out there. Thanks Nick for putting together a great product and finding a way to make sure we all have access to it.

I emailed Z-tech which is about 75 miles from me over in Terre Haute, IN. about a remote starter. They asked if my truck had a push button start and I emailed back it did not and sent a picture of my 3 button key/fob that fits in the ignition to start my truck. That was 2 days ago and never heard back from them so I take it they do not have a remote start for my SR5.
