Prolly more like 7 for me. If you take into account fuel, restroom, and a meal break. But doable!

OBX plenty close... That said... I am NOT a beach person, I'm very fair skinned, and burn in about 10 minutes unless I use SPF 300.

Not really sure about creeks but the St Johns river and some big lake bodies of water and a lot of water cut off canals....

Lots of stuff to do to not get bored that's for sure...

I miss the Outer Banks. Drive on beaches once you're down around Hatteras was one the reasons I sprung for the 4 wheel drive on my 1st gen years ago. Drive out, pick a spot, pull out the chair, cooler and surf rod and just relax. No fishing license needed for the ocean.

I suggest we ask james when he returns as he and Beth travel all over and probably know a common ground location that will satisfy most requirements

    That's a beautiful place.

... But don't camp down by the creek when rain is forecasted. :anonymous:

Guess time for a new battery, again. Cell died in the last one and Toyota replaced it, this one will not start at -6. Interstate here we come. In suit was supposed to be at PT 15 min. ago instead spent last 45 minutes in a suit and dress shoes running extension cord and battery charger no joy yet. Letting it charge up longer now. Inside to see if I can feel my toes and fingers again, and ears. Did I mention real feel is -21? Getting too old for this shit.

Sage for me over Orvis, not an Orvis fan. With that said I have an Orvis Battenkill reel purchased about 1980 that is still serviceable. Caught a 44 pound king on it with a #8 rod and 10 lb. tippet. Was one of the first palming reels. Bob Clouser turned me onto Sage, but what feels best to you is the right one IMO.

I spent most of my time in that area. Lots of waterfalls. And trout. It and Hendersonsville are large retirement communities. People up North would drive back and forth between Fl. and the North then all of a sudden a lot of them released half way in between would be the perfect place to live all year. Which is why they got the name halfbacks, they made it half way back and then stopped.

I used to know almost rock between the CCC camp and the hatchery on the Davidson. The brownie I talked about catching earlier was just below the bridge going into the hatchery. Used to park in that parking lot and walk up the mountain behind it to hunt deer too.

    :)

Traveling from Scott AFB, IL back to Richmond, VA to visit my folks (for the last time IIRC, but that's another story) we set up tent, got finished about time rain started. Long story short, by midnight I was throwing wet gear in the wagon and we spent the second half of the night in a motel room. Did I mention our boys were 2 and 5? Not my finest hour.
