The Big Bang Theory is based on the Universe being a finite space. Matter is moving outward and inward but all seemingly centered on a single point in space. Christianity doesn't say how the heavens and earth were created, just that they were.

The Big Bang states there is a starting point, which agrees with Genesis. The Theory of Evolution states that plant life came first, then sea creatures, then land animals, and lastly, Man. Genesis says the same. I question where the conflict is. It is only in whether credit is given to God, or to chance. For those who want to side with chance, see the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

i think this is where most of us non-believing folks come from. once we are able to develop rational thought on our own, without the influence of parents or peers, then we make the decision about our own beliefs. i still feel that just because a parent may be an atheist, the child will still make their own choice eventualy. to say that atheist parents create atheist children, is like saying that every chef's child will themselves become a cook. what differentiates atheism from christianity (in relation to conditioning) is in my mind, the fact that the parents are actively instilling their religion in their children by taking them to church, whereas generally, atheists don't gather together and tell their children "this is what's right". churches are much the same as a school for children, to learn religion. i've never heard of an atheist school.

I agree. If there is such thing as chance or coincidence, I believe God has it under his control.

I don't think science and religion contradict each other for that matter, in fact, I think science has helped in proving some of the order in which things happened....

frack! quantum physics! i tried wrapping my brain around the big bang and string theories...but it is  beyond my current capacity of understanding. maybe i should have paid more attention in math class :D

this video blew my mind when i watched it, and i would recommend it to all who are participating in this thread. wether you have religion or not...it will open your eyes to the world around you and have you asking yourself questions you never even thought about before.

Ok, this is fine. You let them decide for themselves. But what if he/she chose to believe in GOD and you were an atheist. Would you then take him/her to church if they asked to learn more and attend a house of God. I seriously doubt it. It's just not in an atheist's nature to allow others so close to them, that they might control, to make a decision in regarding acceptance of a God other than the one they would.

Just my thoughts. But hey, I could be wrong 1 in a million maybe. But in this case it appears someone in the house made the decision so that might just be the 1.

Wrong. I attend church with my wife and kids about once a month. The school my son goes to has weekly mass for the kids. I would not mind if he chose religion, but will have to a lot of defending of his views when he gets older. I actually think it's more of an atheist's nature to let them choose his own path because we know how personel of a decision it is to make rather then just believing what a parent feeds them.

I like this, Basicaly the same thing, but two ways to interpret it. One being the "scientific" way and the other "religious" way.

Creation could be interpreted a million different ways:eek:

Not 1 in a hundred thousand will do the work necessary to prove the existence of god. The main work is study so you understand what you are trying to prove. This makes atheism nonsense since you believe in something that does not exist. Organized religion is equal nonsense since the leaders have not realized the truth about god themselves. The key first step is wanting to know. “Ask and it shall be given”. Read the book “The Master Key System” by Charles Haanel if you want to understand the world we live in.

My apologies. You probably are actually that 1. You are obviously an understanding individual as well to maintain your own opinions and yet allow for other views. Ken

Atheists will teach their children atheism by example.

Christian parents will get accused of 'forcing' their beliefs for doing the same thing.

The best way to learn anything is to learn by example. So is the teacher really teaching, or is the student just learning?

No need for apologies. I feel that people are entilted to there own views on anything as long it does not negatively affect someone else. If some people choose religion, that's fine, just don't knock me for not choosing it.:)

i'll refer to my earlier statement. not all chef's children will become cooks. if a murderer has children, will they also be inclined to take someone's life?

religion would not exist without teaching, whereas godlessness would be the norm if religion were not taught. we are all born atheists.
