Well, my girlfriend and I were involved in a hit and run tonight. An older woman who had been drinking side swiped us head on as we were driving to get dinner. Luckily at very low speeds. I will post pics tomorrow in the daylight, but the Tacoma only has some small scrapes down the front driver side fender flare. However, the damage would've been way worse had she not slid down my sliders the rest of the way. Instead of crushed door panels, I have scratches in the bed liner on my sliders. Shout out to Bay Area Metal Fab and their solid product. Also, fantastic work by the fine officers of Jacksonville Police Dept who had her located before I had gotten off the phone with 911.

Damage is minimal. The scratches on my slider were paint from her car, and it cleaned right off. No denting, bending, or deformation of the sliders in any way. They did however destroy the front fender of her vehicle. She also ended up being uninsured. I have to go to the courthouse today to fill out paperwork concerning the hit and run, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Lucky you! Glad it wasn't worse, and I hope they throw the book at her!

Thank you for taking one for the team. I hope your repairs are covered by your uninsured motorist coverage (I think it's pretty much standard on auto policies).

Overall a good thing happened. Nobody was hurt, but this old bat is guilty of a felony. Several felonies actually. We should all pray to the deity of our choosing (my red heeler personally) that she be hit hard enough with penalties that she stops driving. She'll lose her license, but that's sometimes not a real game changer for these idiots. Hopefully some jail time. Chances are, this isn't her first rodeo.

Yes, my insurance is going to take care of everything for me. They've been great so far. I haven't gotten any more updates yet, but like you, I assume this isn't her first rodeo. An officer hinted to me last night that she may not have even had a license in the first place. Either way, it should take me about 45 minutes today after work to take all the necessary steps to have her arrested. Which will be time well spent. Zero sympathy for drunk drivers.

Dude that sucks, but as long as y'all are in one piece that's what matters. Hit and run sucks, at least you caught the perp!
I was hit last year (didn't catch the person). Insurance covered it, roughly 4.5k in damage (bumper, radiator support, x2 headlights, paint etc. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hit-and-run-need-help.381353/

Ouch that looks way worse. It pisses me off that someone can just leave after causing damage to someone else's property. I'm very thankful that we were okay and that the awesome officers at JPD worked quickly. Also, shout out to @JLee for making a solid product. I don't offroad as much as I'd like, but these sliders were well worth the money. They saved me a ton of damage last night and countless door dings while I parked on campus every day for years. I'd definitely buy again.

Hope everything works out well for you OP! And good job writing a thread relating to an accident that was actually level headed and well explained, some people can't seem to do that. No mercy for drunk drivers though...

Thank you! Yeah I was pretty upset about it last night, but the damage is small and everyone walked away. Now I just have to let the legal system do it's job. I'm honestly ready to be out of Jacksonville. Never had an accident before, and I've been hit 3 times here since the start of 2016.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Glad to here they protected your truck. It just go's to show you sliders are not just for off road we have had quite a few customers over the years save major body damage with our sliders from people hitting them only hitting the sliders.

Sorry to hear about the other accidents man, that really sucks. I was born there but my parents moved not too long afterwards. Who knows, maybe my dad was trying to protect the '86 4Runner he had at the time.

Glad the truck didn't suffer much!

Unfortunately the reality is that she'll lose her license temporarily, pay some fines plea to a single misdemeanor and be back on the road in 7 months... Still uninsured, still drinking.

Thanks to everyone who wished us well. I am looking forward to buying new Tacoma goodies with the payout. My front suspension needs the upgrade badly.

Glad to hear most everything worked out OK so far, nobody was hurt, and your fine sliders did a great job protecting the truck. And I hope the rest of the process is quick and painless.

I have to say that *some of the safest drivers are people who received a DUI with heavy punishment and penalties, and as a result they are more careful than the average driver. Notice I said "some"... ...
