Replacement for 1st Gen Center Console?

First time poster here...

I searched around, but didn't find a thread on this. The square cup holders in my center console on my 98 reg cab are kinda ridiculous - they don't hold anything securely. I read somewhere that a '01-'04 center console will bolt right in.

Does anyone have any thoughts on 1) where to find such a console, or 2) any ideas to make do with what I have?

I swapped my 2000 center console for a 2001 console today! Got it from a member on here that is caging his truck, it wouldn't fit with his new seats.

They do bolt right up, took me all of 5 minutes to do. Definitely worth doing.

The 01 console is fantastic

I always thought who needs 4 cup holders for two front seats when the rear passenger have floor pull out cup holders

Then I realized often times I use the cup holders as sun glass holder and coffee and water things

It's very useful for my use

 

There is this company that also makes 3d printed color matched cup-holders/storage compartment for 1st gens and 4runners, manual or auto
They are not exactly cheap but look to be good quality for another option out there.

Just to clarify, the 01-04 center consoles look like this and are a direct bolt up to the old one? I always thought this style console was only for a double cab. I have an xtracab.

 

Yep direct bolt on swap from any 01-04 to earlier years

 

Where did you guys get a replacement? Tacomas at junkyard around here are sparse. 4Runners are way more common.

 

I completely removed my center console to make room for my wife's purse and jackets, etc.

 

See them from time to time in the tw marketplace for 1st gens

 

Mt cheap fix for square cup holders in my 98 std cab.cut a coozie in half.a little double sided tape done.

I really don't know what Toyota was thinking when they designed that console like that. I have no idea what to put in the holes OR the rectangular pocket things. I don't even think a rectangular milk carton fit very well in it.

 

I use every single one of them while every time I drive, but I think I would give up two for a second stick...

I refuse to change to the '01 - '04 center console
because the later gray color don't match the '98 - '00 interior blue-gray color.
Or maybe I just don't care to hassle with it.

 

upgrading to the 01-04 center console is one of the greatest mods I've done to my truck.

keep looking at the 1st gen marketplace, they pop up
