Yay for sliders!!! Specifically, Stubbs Welding HD-SKO sliders.

I ordered these on a Monday. Richard, the owner, had them fabbed and shipped by Thursday the same week. They arrived the following Thursday. Impressive turn around.

I primed them with rustoleum self etching primer and painted them with Rustoluem hammered finish spray paint.

My buddy was free, has a shop, and is a much better welder than I am, so I headed down to see him.

The install went very smoothly. I took some of the pinch weld off so I could get them nice and tight to the body without hitting it when the sliders flex.

I really like the added length they offer; extending almost to the rear tire. Handy for loading stuff on the shell rack, and for not letting a tree come off your slider and eat your fender like @Dave41079 :boink:

    Simple, understated kickout.

I still need to prime and re-paint the frame, leg plates, and pinch weld.

Took me a minute to notice sliders. Thought it was a pic of dog shite on carpet, then realized it was gloves.

I hate that kick out. Im surprised he built them like that just trying to be different. 2 things: 1) It doesn't appear to stick out far enough to really be effective. Looks like it barely reaches the outside of your stock back spaced wheels and with less offset aftermarket wheels, whatever you are being kicked off of would still run into the tread of your tire. He should've made it more aggressive. 2) Having the kickoff suddenly stop with a hard edge away from the body instead of tapper off provides an open spot for something to get stuck in between it and the tire, especially if going in reverse. Once again, seems odd he chose to flip this spot around and alter it from basically ever other kickout on the market.

Ahh. Great point for discussion. Your reversing scenario concerns are certainly valid, and to be honest, never crossed my mind. However, there is purpose behind the design. The body of 1st gens sweeps downward in front of the rear wheel well. See pic.

Because of this, the inner tube of the slider can only be a certain length. If it was longer, it would hit the down sweeping body. Most sliders available are made like you mentioned, with the KO angling forward, leaving that downward sweeping section unprotected.

With these, the main tube bends outward away from the body to meet the longer outer tube, allowing the overall length of the slider to be longer than if it were made the other way. This was ultimately the reason I chose these. Does that make sense? I can get a pic tomorrow that will explain better.

There are spacers behind those wheels. The wheel+spacer combo is the equivalent of 4.0" BS. Might be hard to see from the angle of my pics, but they stick out wider than the tire.

Also, I like them. Go eat some gluten. :p:boink:

That body spot on the bed that curves down towards the rear wheel looks higher then the pinch weld on the cab. I'm not in front if your truck and don't stare at a first generation everyday but seems as though it could easily be remedied by projecting the legs out further and angling the outside tube up more. Either way, I'm sure it's fine as you don't offroad anyway ........ :bananadead:

    And NO!! Meat salads only!

Shopping cart protection, brah. And I offroad multiple times per week, just don't wheel often. ;)
Also, I enjoyed hearing the story of you trying to order a gluten free pizza at AOP.
