Can anyone give me any information about these Bilsteins? I know they came off a 1st gen tundra. I am wondering if with a spring and possibly tophat swap can I use them on my Tacoma. I want to upgrade my entire suspension. Would like to replace leaf packs and everything.

Yeah, I memba reading somewhere here that peep have used the 1st gen Tundra front shocks or the whole strut assembly or something. I'll try and read some more to see how much modding, if any, is required.

I've searched around and getting yes and no. I feel like for the cost of new springs ~ $200 and tophats ~$75 I would have a fully adjustable set of coilovers vs the 5100 with 3 position settings. Being these are threaded and use spanner wrenches I could set them at whatever. Not really looking for lift just level and ride good. Looking at a set of allpro standard or expo leaf packs in the rear.

Yeah, definitely man. At that price you need to find out ASAP if those will work. And if they will that's a great score, I think. Are the Billie coilovers rebuildable? I've read all of the other big names are, so I'd imagine that the Billies are as well. But I'm not fully versed in coilovers yet. If they're rebuildable, doesn't seem like you can go wrong at that price.

    A couple thoughts:

Do you know if these shocks are any good? Unless they were taken off another truck YOU drove, it's a mystery. So there's some inherent risk involved. You could get the springs, tops and then still have a blown or worn out shock. Burn!

A full set of brand new 5100's will cost about the same ($300) as attempting to use these old shocks (and you get 4 NEW shocks under warranty!). I've been happy with my 5100's for 6 years. Setting the 5100's on the top ring should give you a pretty level truck with the all-pro leafs. Get the expos if you're going to be doing any overlanding/carrying heavier loads.

I know I've been caught with the "how can I use this widget I got for free/cheap?" But many times you end up spending more time and/or money than it might be worth.

    Just food for thought.

Thing is, is that these are actual coilovers. From what I've read they're substantially better than the OEM style struts, the 5100s are still strut assemblies.

No, they're coilovers. OEM are coilovers, too.

    https://www.1aauto.com/content/articles/shocks-and-struts

Basically, a strut bears lateral load, whereas shocks/coilovers do not. You can't replace a stut with a coilover.

The performance gains come from the valving, and damping of the shock, not whether it's a coilover or a strut.

actually those are basically the same as 5100/5125s. they just have a threaded body. they arent even user rebuildable.

So at this point being that I don't need a lot of lift just a nice stance sounds like I am better off buying new 5100 and springs. What spring would be best? Ome 881? Stock bumper no winch just a road queen.
