    1st gen

    That's the plan.

Checking out a couple Ram 2500's today. Time for a tow rig and different dd haha. Long past due having the ability to trailer the yota to and from wheeling and not depending solely on it for transportation with the abuse it receives.

It was super scary limping it home to McMinnville from Estacada. It sits with the tires cambered out real bad and when you try to turn the steering rack pushes the tires away from each other even more without those crossmembers to keep the front suspension fixed. It was really hard to steer. I actually called AAA to get a tow home, but they were to busy. It was not a fun drive.

I'm curious what you were doing when the failure occurred? Did this happen from a specific action? Like catching 10' of air on a jump? :cookiemonster:

Having wheeled with you in the past, I know you use your truck hard on the trail and sometimes give no fucks. Nothing wrong with that but do you think what happened is a cumulative issue? From years of hard use?

I would install a train horn on my truck, but I really don't want to trailer the diesel powered compressor I'd need to blast all the tools I deal with in traffic.

so im thinking of taking off my running boards and going with some bolt on sliders. what kind do you guys like? Id really be using it as a sidestep really since i dont get out much, but i like the look of it tucked it. not a huge fan of those ones with the steps.

the reason i was thinking bolt on vs. weld on was that it would be easier for me to do myself, i wouldnt be putting alot of stress on them offroading or anything, and i figured they would be easier to fix if i ever did smash/bend one.

The prior owner of my Tacoma mounted bolt-on sliders; I would be nervous drilling thru a perfectly good frame; its either bolt on or weld on forever...

if you ever happen to use them (whether intentional or accidental) you are going to want them welded. by all means go bolt on if you only intend to use them as a step up to get into the vehicle. but if you offroad, the last thing you want is to buy something, and it fail on you when you need it most.

Fast forward to 1:10 if you want to see why.

these still should not have moved that much, but they saved my door from not being able to open. just something to think about. dont "half ass" it just because you dont THINK you will need it. If its between drilling through my frame or welding, im welding. I can always cut and grind down the weld and repaint to cover the marks. there is no putting back metal from a hole....(unless you weld a plate and grind it down....either way you're welding )

this is just my 2 cents though. of course do what you think is best, its your truck and your money (that goes for any advice gotten from TW )

For my horns, I have one of those compressor/.5 gallon tank combos. I am going to change to a Viair 444 with a 2 gallon tank to run my horns and air bags.

wow that video, yeah dont want it snapping off there. that seemed like a pretty big impact and it doesnt look like theres a smash or anything on the sliders. my main thing about the weld-ons was that 1) i cant weld them on myself and 2)fixing them once they are on there. but im starting to lean towards the 'they are for protection, let them get fucked up' side.

I was pretty much kidding, but if I did have a setup, I'd pretty much want a continuous duty compressor (which I guess is smaller than I thought I would need for a solution) and police immunity for having deafened half the population of Hillsboro. I'd rig it up trucker-style with a cord to pull, and invent a new disability called 'trucker's elbow' from having yanked on that cord too much.

What do you intend to do when you say 'fixing them'? You can't really pop dents out of tube steel, and there's no need to be bending anything back unless you have an inferior product. I've come down on stuff harder than that video and slid the entire length of the slider with both tires in the air. Out of everything I've done, there's a dent in one of the tubes, but damned if anyone on earth could change it back... nor am I concerned about the structural integrity yet.

Mike, that's called tennis elbow. Also, unless you are blasting a train horn all the time, continuous duty is overkill. An air tank with even 33% duty should do just fine.
