Oh, if you're only 17 skip the M car for now. The insurance is going to kill you, especially if you're in college. Bang for buck, look at an E46 330i. The ZHP package sedans are about as close as you can get to an M3 without paying the M tax. But a decent set of coil overs on it, along with a short shifter and you'll have a hell of a fun car.

Alright. I've come up with my final decision. I'm getting the BMW, but not yet.. I'm going to keep the Tacoma. Best to have both even if it means taking all my money. Won't be able to get it for a while though. Hopefully I by next fall.

Being 17 you should be happy you even have the truck you have. Keep it. If anything you should be taking girls offroad for fun and trying to utilize that back seat at your age instead of worrying about what you drive.

"utilise that backseat".. Haha I've never even kissed, I'm not good with that kind of stuff. And I am very happy with the truck I have, I spent everything I had (and didn't have..) to get this damn thing. It's just easy to think about selling for another car I've always wanted becomes possible to get.

lol hey man I wasn't the best with the ladies either so I understand you their, took me a few years to learn what I was doing. If your trucks paid for I'd keep it at your age. Sports cars are for your late 20's early 30's. Insurance on a sports car at your age is probably more then the payment on the car monthly. I remeber when i bought my cbr600rr new in 06 at age 18. full coverage insurance yearly was $4500 a year for a $9000 bike. Luckily bikes work different then cars when financed. I carried basic insurance and prayed daily that I didn't catch fire, crash or walk out to a missing bike. Now at age 29, its stupid at $400 a year for full coverage. My taco is $90 a month. Logically i vote to keep the truck, save more money and by the time you can buy the e46 m3 cash the e90 m3 will be in your price range. Personally I'd rock the e60 m5, I love that v10. You gotta test drive it to understand. In the end do what makes you happy brother. All of us idiots can only help out so much man.

...^^^... keep your truck, it's a nice ride.

At 17, I was driving a "beater", flying an old J cub and chasing chicks :)... they didn't care what I drove ... ;)

That's super clean and shocked it only has 73K miles. Put a CT27 with a tuned ECU on it and uncork the 3sgte. Mine was making 250hp at the wheels with essentially bolt on mods and was still mega reliable.

o_O Shut the front door? o_O

When I was 17 I drove an 88 Toyota standard cab and thought I was hot shit. I don't even understand how an M3(or any luxury/sports car)purchase is possible for a 17 year old.

Different life circumstances for different people. I didn't get any financial help from my parents when I was in high school, but I still had one of the nicest cars at school because I sucked at sports and had a really good job that paid exceptionally well for a high schooler. While my more agile/coordinated friends were at practice after school every day, I was at work.

Or maybe he's lucky enough to have parents that help him out a bit with money.

Also, you can acquire a decent E46 M3, B6/7 Audi S4, or even a 996 Porsche for ~$15k nowadays. Acquiring the vehicle is one thing, paying for the insurance and maintenance is whole other issue though...

You paid cash for this vehicle or you financed it?

I don't know of any banks that will finance an auto loan for a minor. That's why I ask.

The first car I financed had an insurance rate higher than the car payment. Understandably so because I wrecked it.

I guess that's the part I don't understand. So you saved every dollar over the past ~2 years of your working life? At a part time job while going to school? And you're now able to afford nicer vehicles than most adults twice your age? Teach me your ways!

Haha, it's cool if your parents helped you out. Nothing wrong with that. You're getting an education. :hattip:

It was my dads truck before it was mine. He was planning on selling it, so I gave him all the cash I had and took over the payments.

I was riding a Triumph Tiger 650 at 15, that I had bought brand new for cash that I had earned. Gas was 37 cents a gallon. I walked to school in the winter, against the wind and up hill, back and forth both ways. I finally bought a used snowmobile when I was 16.

I didn't see a roof and four wheels on my ride until I was 18.

    True story.

Ah ok, that's understandable. So you've got a good amount of equity in the Tacoma(bless you, Toyota)?

I'm sure it's been addressed by now in this thread, but at your age insurance and maintanence on that car is going to be a huge burden on a college student. You've got plenty of time to play with cars later on in life. Insurance is MUCH cheaper when you're old :pccoffee:

I financed my car. And by "I", I mean "my dad." My parents didn't help me out much financially, but they trusted me enough to finance a car in their name that I had to make the payments on.

The insurance for that car (1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST) was higher than the payments also. LOL

Insurance where I live really isn't too bad, know someone who's 17 & has an e46 m3 (middle of nowhere type area like the one I live in) and he gets $180 a month for full coverage.

...^^^... IMO ... the Japanese eat the German's lunch when it come to regular production consumer vehicles.

I like German cars for their class ... but ... IMO, but they have become less dependable and more expensive to maintain.
