Since moving to FL I have not found it necessary, however when I lived in Iowa the remote start was the absolute best money I ever spent. It went on every car I owned.

Like has been said tying metal into your frame may not be the solution to your problems. Find a good junkyard for sourcing parts I'd say. You'll never be able to avoid damage from a collision whether you have an off-road bumper or not and could do more damage to another vehicle that would be your liability if the accident were your fault. Stock parts are the best because they're the most plentiful and interchangeable.

That said I'll be getting bumpers for rocks and taking the risk on the road but I've had one accident in 17 years and I hopefully will go more than 17 before my next one.

WAYYY ahead of you there. After the drunk driver hit me and lied to his insurance company, the court forced him to pay me restitution, which I used to buy two FULL HD dashcams, for front and rear.

I agree with these other guys ^. From an engineering standpoint, your truck is supposed to crumple in an accident. It's that crumpling that absorbs energy and saves your life.

The armor we outfit our trucks with is mostly for rocks and trees at super low speeds offroad. It is not designed with crash tests in mind. It also will transfer more energy to the frame and could end up doing more damage to your vehicle. It could also save you from replacing a bumper cover and grill in a little fender bender. Depends on the impact.

I paid $80 for the install by a Toyota tech (done privately)

Looking at it after the fact i probably could have done myself easy enough. As long as youve got a good wiring diagram its just simple wire splicing.

Got my truck used with one and had one on a previous car and love it, I recommend it for anyone that live in "cold" parts of the country

I'm not an expertise by any means, but warming your truck up every morning during the winter months will not destroy your engine. Pushing the RPM's past 3k with a cold engine will do more damage than a simple idle. Now, idling for long periods of time, sure it will increase wear. I'm not suggesting that one should "warm" their vehicle up to operating temp. I'm saying that starting your car a few minutes prior to driving will not cause any problems.

Definitely my favorite mod to my truck and I wish I did it sooner. I have to get up at 430 so that sucks. Plus I like the idea that if someone breaks into my truck while it's running, there's no key to actually go anywhere.

Make sure it is properly insured and move on with life. It is just a truck.

My last tacoma had it. 300,000 miles. Started it remotely summer or winter every day. Sometimes it would idle the full 20 minutes of the timer. Idling the truck hurts nothing but the cost of the gas.

My present Tacoma has it too.

Sometimes I wish more people had it. I can't count the times I've seen people driving with only a little port hole of a window to see out of. Too lazy to scrape all the snow off all of v the windows. With a remote start, at least there will be a chance their windows are fog or ice free.

This. Anything reinforced like a front or rear bumper will only transfer the impact to the next weakest point from those bumpers and such. As others have said, likely your frame could get crunched in due to this or experience a side impact load torqueing the frame and totaling it pretty quick vs just getting a new bumper replacement. At the end of the day there is only so much you can do unfortunately.
