Best baseplate idea I've seen.

 

I saw a pic of how @GHOST SHIP cuts the tire. The man is a genius! Mad scientist like!

 

Not really, but I think I might have just as many tools as my dad... At least mine are better organized.

 

1. If you measured the droop, YU no post #? Dick wants to know.
2. I'll need to get a hi-lift eventually. In the first gen, my kit only included a 12-ton bottle jack and various blocks of wood and a pretty large square of 3/4 ply for soft conditions, the overall plan being to only jack or by the axle or UCA for flats. But I'll need to upgrade for my future intentions. Sliders will bee soon after the lift, no only for...sliding, but also to provide easier access to the Prinsu rack and for jacking.

 

I'll see if I have enough for another one. But it's a great way to use your take offs if you have any. I figured you can get about 6-7 pieces from one 33" tire depending on how big you cut them. The belts embedded in the rubber will fight you and it'll be tricky to cut them straight, but it can be done with some patience and a little brute force.

Angle grinder with cut off wheel to get you started (makes burning rubber smoke, but you only need to do this once per tire). All you need is enough to get a saw blade in. Then jigsaw with metal blade- medium TPI works best. Slow speed and steady hands with forward pressure. Once you get three sides cut, the tire will flop around on you and it will move with the saw blade (up and down) so weaving a straight edge under the piece you are cutting will add some support so you can make the final cut. Pictures incoming.

 

Here you can see the straight edge supporting the flap to make the final cut (piece has already been cut off)

 

Looks like you can get about 4-5 more out of that tire.

 

I'd sure like to have one of those, and I'd be willing to pay.

Here is what I learned.

My current leaf pack is Full set of Dakar +

$74 D29XL Old Man Emu Dakar Extra Leaf Spring

D29XL AAL. My tire wheel combo weigh 84. I mention this because it pulls on the springs

I measured one side at a time, with the tire off the ground,

• The B110 shock on the drivers side appeared to be near fully extended at 27", Hub to fender measured out to 32.5"
• The B110 shock on the passenger side extended to 26.5", Hub to fender measured out to 32"

Measuring hub to fender isn't very scientific for a variety of reasons. There are better ways to do it.

The reason I did it was, I wanted to know the effects of the overload.

Sliders are one of most versatile mods you can do, I think.

Cheers, mate. I know you had changed things up since you put the shocks on. Initially, I am still pulling the OL and installing the AAL like your original setup. You still have the shims in, right?

Absatively on wheels. Mine weigh 75.

Absativley on fender measurements.

For my rear Kings, I specified 27 on extension. With little on-shaft rubber bumps. If I ever run into an issue, I could swap in longer thread piston rod ends if necessary, but want to avoid that.

That sounds like a great combination! I'm quite interested to see Kings assembled on your truck. I know I've said I have no plans to move away from the B110... But one day in the distant future, I might. Since adding the stock overload back in, I want to say my spring pack feels stiffer (duh!). I am struggling to find some time where I can get out on the trail alone, and flex the truck out and test with no time constraints. Also itching to rebuild the front end.

It seems that only your compression would be affected by putting the OL back in. Other than it also weighs a lot, changing your unsprung weight and related shock response.

edit: oh, yeah, and get in line for the King wait. 12-16 weeks. But that's OK. I intend to spend January passed out, and February reclaiming myself.
