Uh, do you use that on your windshield? 'Cause it's not washer fluid. But if it works I might try it; for some reason RV antifreeze is easier to find than low-temp washer fluid in this temperate area.

Unless that stuff is different then the RV Anti-freeze that is used by some of my friends in their RV's, I really would not recommend using that as washer fluid. Sure it may not freeze but will make a mess on your windshield.

Oh Shit. I just saw there's some next to the windshield washer fluid. OK don't use that then, sorry carry-on

While I agree that beam-type or booted "winter" wiper blades are better for snow than standard "summer" wiper blades, I found that Bosch Icon blades froze up on me more than other brands of beam blades. Honestly it doesn't matter what blade you use, eventually they will freeze up because the defroster on the Tacoma sucks. May it's not the defroster that sucks but there's something about the Tacoma that makes the wiper blades freeze up more often than with other vehicles I've owned (all of which have used winter wiper blades and none have had heated wipers). I don't remember the wiper blades on my old Rav4 freezing up nearly as often as the ones on my Tacoma. It must be differences in the pitch of the windshield.

I use a similar method with my frozen wipers as I do my kids when they are ineffective. I beat the snail snot out of them against a hard surface until they do what they're supposed to do.

Yup, they have. It's named 'Global Warming'.

Toyota predicts that they will have the problem solved by the 8th Gen model.

I have found this to be one of the best techniques for Colorado winter weather. Also keeps you from getting the mag-chloride streaking from running the wipers.

I don't know if the 3rd gen is any better, but I think the heater in my second gen leaves much to be desired....

If you're going to be doing a lot of driving in freezing conditions, you might look into adding a washer fluid heater to help keep the blades from icing so much.

Glad I'm not the only one. I tried the I beam wipers one time, and thought they were garbage, even when compared to summer wipers. I've noticed the big issue on my 2nd gen is the wipers are below where the heat hits on the windshield, so they freeze up no matter what. I usually try to park them a little high if possible toget them on the warm part of the windshield.

That being said I usually run summer wipers year round up here in Maine. I've always had to reach out the window and snap the wiper regardless of summer/winter orientation, and the summer ones usually thaw easier and contact better anyways.

On semis here in Wyoming we use a combination of windshield wash/de-icer. Not sure what the brand is but there is stuff that you can buy that does both, no need to max out your defrost/ fog up your windshield.

Update: lots of stuff to do it. Preston AS250 De-Icer Windshield Washer Fluid. 1 gallon for $4

Not picking on you Joey Del but.......

It seems this site is full of guys who expect a mid priced truck to be loaded like a 80k Benz. Nobody seems happy with the Toyota Tacoma and all the things it doesn't do? You could have all the things you want if you feel like spending double the money on a German car but what fun would that be? Couldn't bitch about your Truck and how it's 40 k plus on TW.

The trucks are what they are and not every car/truck on earth has gobs of low end power, heated wipers, 10k paint jobs and kick ass stereos from the factory. If we all had our wish list from Toyota we couldn't afford to have a Tacoma as it would be priced like a Platinum F350.

They are a mid sized mid priced good value truck with great resale because of it. If you hate yours sell it and buy a Dodge or a Honda so you can spend your days on something more productive than looking for "another Taco issue" on TW .

You failed to see the sarcasm in my post. I found it kind of funny the original OP never had this happen before and didn't know how to deal with it or thought he needed to alert us all to another "3rd gen" problem.

FWIW I see it the same as you see it.

Never had a problem with icon wipers, and i pair that with rain x 2 in 1 fluid, which helps de-ice a swell as apply a small amount of rain x, which helps it not stick as much. Never had a problem with this combo. I also found that keeping the wipers up off the windshield when parked helps if its going to be freezing conditions. Keeping ice off when driving is easier when you dont have to remove it first.
