The NFL basically said "nothing to see here" because the Giants didn't file an official complaint with the league. They also probably wanted to avoid another deflategate, because of the points it cost them with fans the first time around. They had a statement out less than an hour after it was brought up. That's time for one hell of an investigation into it, lol.

The Giants pointed it out to the league. Considering what a big deal it obviously was last time, if there's a possibility of a rule being broken, shouldn't the league investigate? That certainly seemed to be the opinion last time around. Hell, last time around pretty much everybody had already made up their minds before the league said anything at all (which took 5 days just to announce an investigation)

I'm amused by the lack of response from the media/fans/league compared to the absolute shitstorm that the last report of deflated footballs brought about. That's all. If you don't think it's a little odd, that's even more amusing.

The league will get to it just as soon as umpires, referees and judges become full-time professional employees and there is complete oversight and consistency of officiating.

    And while we're waiting...

You're missing my point here (unsurprisingly). What I'm saying is, last time around the whole 'deflategate' saga was kicked off by one tweet from one ESPN writer. Everybody flipped their shit, it was all over the news, (and on here, if you've forgotten) before the league had a position either way.

A report pops up that the Steelers might have been using deflated balls? The response is "Who cares?"

That's what I think is amusing/exasperating. The discrepancy.

I would guess the response is "who cares" because the league immediately came out saying it wasn't true. Had they waited a while like the did with the Pats maybe it would've been different. Not to mention one happened in the playoffs where theres tons of publicity on that one game. The other happened on just another Sunday so most people weren't paying attention to the game, and by the time people even knew about the report, the league had corrected it. Thats why the reaction was different.

Plus the Steelers didn't curbstomp the Giants the way the Pats did the Colts.
Honestly, I think that the league wanted to clamp down on it so that they didn't get a repeat of deflategate. It was a hugely damaging mess for them, with junk science & leaked data, just a huge circus posing as an investigation. But whatever. Ben McAdoo said that they tested two of the Steelers game balls on the sidelines and that they tested low. The Colts did the same thing last year with one ball, and it kicked off a huge clusterfrack (incidentally, the 'formal' complaint from the Colts consisted of Ryan Grigson sticking his head into the NFL's suite and yelling about a small ball).

The fallout that the league got from their mishandling of it the first time around is probably why they quickly released a statement dismissing it this time, I suspect. They aren't interested in even thinking about opening up that can of worms again.

    I'm missing the point?

Colts measure the inflation pressure of one ball on the sideline and find it to be low. They inform the league. League spends months investigating before they can draw any conclusions, levies fines, removes draft picks, issues suspension.
Giants measure the inflation pressure of two balls on the sideline and find them to be low. They inform the league. League issues a statement in less than an hour that essentially says "nothing to see here"

    Some investigation.

There was a report that the Pats were using underinflated balls and everybody freaked out. There was a report that the Steelers were using underinflated balls and nobody (especially the league) cares. Discrepancy.
The league thoroughly investigated the Pats. The league declined to investigate the Steelers at all. Discrepancy.

The difference in how the league handled each event is what is amusing to me. Not whether somebody's balls were over, under, or perfectly inflated.

    Try and keep up.

I find that you expected a different outcome amusing. After all the court and negative press from Deflategate, you expect them to risk it again over half a pound of air? I think they went completely overboard the first time and I think they (the NFL) know that.

Lol, honestly I didn't expect a different outcome. I'm still amused by the difference in how they approached the whole thing this time. Especially after watching the crapshow that was deflategate and having to watch a backup and his backup win 3 out of 4 at the beginning of this season because Goodell doesn't like Brady
