Opinions on Limited vs PRO

We've experienced that same thing with different leather furniture over the years. Some of it seems to last forever and look/ feel amazing. Other stuff that is supposed to be of the same or better grade looks terrible after a year or two. My problem with black fabric vs. black leather is our dogs have tan fur (Ridgebacks). With fabric it seems to get stuck in it and almost become one with it. I have this problem with the rear parts of my Jeep that are still fabric. With the leather it just wipes off. I assume the fabric in the Tacoma is pretty durable and wears well, given the market they are selling to. I would certainly trust their fabric vs. many others LOL. Thanks for the info!

 

Yeah, I figured the Limited could be had at a decent discount vs. the Pro. That is definitely part of my decision. But then I start thinking if I got the Limited for $38k and could get a Pro for $43k, to me I would probably regret not going with the Pro. If the difference were bigger I think it would be a much harder decision... The enjoyment of driving the Pro over the next 5-10 years would definitely be worth that $5k to me. If I was just buying what I need, the Limited or even less would be plenty haha. I appreciate the input. All of this has helped a lot.

 

That's the thing - I'm sure the stereo in the Pro is perfectly fine. Someone else said it's not that far off from the JBL anyway and it's much easier to replace. And overall there isn't anything else I would have to do with the Pro to make it look like/ behave like I want. I have to remind myself that I've been driving around for the past 11 years in a Jeep with an upgraded head unit and the stock speakers because they sounded fine to me. So I'm not exactly an audiophile...

 

Interesting; the gray fabric in my Jeep Wrangler didn't have much issue holding dog fur, though the dark fabric in my wife's Rav4 does like to hold it. Not too bad though, nothing a quick vacuum won't pull out.

One definite difference of leather vs cloth is the dogs sliding off the rear seat if I had to brake suddenly. Happens far less with cloth than with leather.

Best is to go listen to both. I have the JBL in my OR and enjoy the difference from the non-JBL Premium&Tech package radio. Like you, I'm not an audiophile and have been completely happy with the factory upgraded versions on different vehicles.

Do you have any reason to believe the Pro has anything different radio-wise than the non-JBL P&T package non-Pro trucks?

 

I think every type of fur is different. Their fur is short, but it's a little coarse, so it almost sticks into fabric like a quill and not all of it will come out with a normal vacuuming, even using the dog hair tools. My plan would be to buy a bedrug and a cap and to keep them in the back, but for times we have one up in the cab with us I would use one of these hammock style covers - they keep most of the fur off the seats and keep him from falling. He's a big guy so I doubt he would even fit in the back seat with the seat folded down. Appreciate the tips!

 

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought there was a difference between the entune "Premium" and the lower entune levels, but it could just be more speakers or something. I could be wrong about that. But even if I didn't like the sound I could easily swap out the speakers for something better and start with that.

Correct. The "Premium" is an upgrade over the base on the SR5 and is standard equipment on Sport, Offroad, and Pro. The Premium with JBL is an additional upgrade option on the Sport and Offroad, and standard equipment on the Limited. It is not available on the Pro for some reason.

I am not reading through 9 pages of the same question that has been asked many of times. It comes down to are you actually going to use it off road? If not, get the limited. Resale value between the two is the same (the pro isn't a collectible and it won't be as much of a deal now when you purchase, ie discounts). Don't be one of those guys that buy the top off road model just to say they have it in conversatin and not use it, there are tens of thousands of raptor owners that way currently...

Yeah, that has been asked plenty of times. And I have asked myself that same question many times. The honest answer is that we run a business and don't have nearly as much time to go off roading as we used to.. But we would still use it for that occasionally. We do a fair amount of mountain biking and having a 4x4 to get to some trails is necessary. But the truth is any real 4x4 with decent ground clearance would get us to most of those spots. The Pro is overkill for me and I realize that, but it's also the only stock truck in my price range I've looked at so far that really impressed me with looks/ performance/ reliability/ etc. I appreciate the input though - it's a matter of wants vs. needs and right now the wants are winning in my head

 

Is leather the reason you were looking at the Pro vs. an OffRoad?

One thought there is maybe see what a local auto upholstery shop might charge to set you up.

 

The best is the hate from guys who own either A) Prerunners 2X2 , B) Access cab 4 cylinders. Love seeing THOSE guys talk shit about the best Tacoma out there. Like they have a leg to stand on at the end of the day.

 

Yeah, it was one reason. The leather does work better in our life. That was one reason I was considering the Limited in the first place... I priced an OR on the Toyota site and with some of the stuff I was looking for it came to $40k+. Obviously there are deals to be had out there, but if I added in re-done seats and new wheels after that I'd be right there in Pro territory again most likely. I'm trying to keep an open mind to all possibilities still. Can I ask what you paid for yours OTD?

 

There you have it. At this point in your life, why would you drive a vehicle that doesn't impress you, if you can comfortably afford to drive what does impress you.

My 2017 White DCSB TRDOR 4x4 is pretty well accessorized which adds up. MSRP was $42,377 plus $600 dealer fee, so that would have been $42977 plus 7% tax and $21 title, for an MSRP OTD total of $46,006.

I paid an OTD total of $42,500, comprised of $39,700 plus 7% tax and $21 title. I did not trade anything, this was a straight up purchase and I did not qualify for any special discount programs.

Now, I did have a quote from a dealer 30 miles away for $300 less, but preferred the dealer 4 miles away from my home who also provides a lifetime/unlimited-miles powertrain warranty.
