You're not joking. 90% of the time I get in my Girlfriends car hers is on, then she'll say something like "Oh it's fine the light has been on the past 3 daysx I've got at least another 2 days until I'm really empty"

mine usually wants me to go to refill her tank when she's still above 1/2.

my motorcycle, a 1996 bmw r1100rs, has a gas gauge in the form of a LCD bar indicator. even if I fill it to overflowing, the top 1-2 bars don't come on, and the last bar is gone when there's still 3 gallons of the 6 gallon tank left, the 'low fuel' light comes on at about the same time. as this bike gets a pretty consistent 40+ MPG, I just figure I can safely go at /least/ 120 more miles before I have to worry about it, but that means I have to notice when that last bar went out. that or just gas at 200-240 miles for the tank, which is what I usually do on road trips, I'll go through 3-4 tanks/day on a long road trip...

but, then there was the time I joined a 'store ride', with a bunch of yahoos I didn't particularlly know (other than the store owner). I forgot to fully gas the night before, and breakfast was in Mariposa. The pace was insanely faster than I would normally cruise, and I ran out of gas about 20 miles short of Mariposa, oooops. Thats one of the very few times I've *EVER* run out of gas in any vehicle in the past 40 or so years of driving. Another rider gave me a ride into Mariposa, kid in the gas station loaned me his jerry can AND gave me a ride back to my bike, and didn't want to accept the $20 tip I offered til I said "buy your friends a case of beer tonight on me!", oh, OK!!

And that's why I love living in Mariposa!

Lost my wallet a few weeks back. Was filling up the truck, laid it on the bed rail after I put my cc back in. Got talking to some friends. Left it there then drove off....

A local found it and took it all the way to the Yosemite valley post office (that's the address on my DL). All contents, including cash, still there. He Wouldn't accept anything. So I got his address from a friend and mailed him a gift card. Far cheaper than having to replace 4 credit cards and Mil ID...

Oddly enough I had this happen in San Jose. Left the wallet on the boat filling it up and drove off. Dude showed up at my door a couple hours later before I even realized I lost it.
There are still good people left in this world. Just getting harder to find.
