Snow Driving - Crawl mode

I am not new to driving in the snow and know very well how to get stuck. What I want to know is how well does the crawl mode work in the snow. I see very little information out there its all about sand. Any one care to tell your story? Does it work?

 

Go find some snow. Get stuck. Turn on crawl mode.

Tell us what happens.

Recommend taking a winch or a buddy with another vehicle with you.

LOL That's such an awesome photo. Stock street tires, no winch, no anchor points, thinks he can drive through a mud bog....

 

If there's not traction (snow/ice) there isn't any amount of electronic traction aids that'll get you unstuck.

 

I am guessing your right, just looking for someone with actual experience.

 

Crawl control works in the sense that it can be smarter about utilizing the available traction, but it can't make up for a lack of traction in the first place. You need to get proper snow tires if you're going to be driving in snow.

 

Does Crawl Control work in 4HI ?

 

I definatly find 4HI and about 3000-5000 RPMS to be the best way to deal with deep snow

 

I put on K2's and have a winch bumper on order.
I was once told the only difference between a 4WD and 2WD is the amount of money it will cost to get towed out!

If you never want o get stuck use the 2WD to get in and the 4WD to get out.

Little shitty tires in over their head. Hardly a "crawl control sucks" issue. Even a good driver would have a helluva time with this.

 

I would think if you're driving in snow, best bet would be to use 4hi as you would want momentum. 4lo for on the beach or sand/rock crawling.

Next bet would be to put weight in the bed. If you're in the snow often then get dedicated snow tires.

 

So essentially no relevance to on road snow driving then

 

I got blizzak dm-v1's installed. They are awesome!! I had ko2's on and they were SO bad in icy weather.

 

Pretty much...i mean crawl control is basically off road cruise control and can only be operated between 1-5 mph.

Although I am curious if anyone had driven in snow, got stuck and then tried crawl control to see if it could dig itself out. It has been done in the sand.

 

I'm interested to hear also . In my 2nd gen I've used 4LO to decend steep hills but mostly its 4HI

 

Funny when I was in Pismo going quick-like made movement pretty easy.
