I guess all the wannabes in Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Audi, Porsche, etc. need to have their HIDs "tuned"....lol.

    Whatever makes you feel superior...

I agree, lol. I made a suggestion and you didn't like it. Who cares? No need to get pissy. I wasn't trying to be that way, guess I ended up coming off like that. Anyways good luck either way. Headlights are fun to mod!

1000 bucks to upgrade my headlights on a 32K truck....hmmm let me think about that...NO FING WAY!!!!!!!! thats a lot of beer which means less driving and need for those THOUSAND DOLLAR HEADLIGHTS!!!

Oh and I love how folks say there is nothing wrong with me lights as no one has flashed me. Thats like saying I can rob banks and kill folks cause no one has caught me.

Do I think the lights need some help, yes.

    so...options are
    1. Replace halogen bulbs with brighter bulbs (Cheapest)
    2. install HIDs in the stock projector (middle)
    3. install HIDs after retrofitting the headlights with "HID" projectors (most expensive)
are most people doing option 2?

lol, its your money. People spend 6k for icon suspension to go on forest service roads. Some people like to have perfect lighting, especially if you live in an area that has little day light during the winters. 1k is nothing compared to what people are spending on their trucks for looks.

    Don't forget, #1 is either:

1a. Buy higher performing H11 bulb (1200-1350 lumens per side): $40

    Or

1b. Modify H9 halogen bulbs (2000+ lumens per side) and use in place of the H11s. Cost:. $16 if you have simple tools.

I went with Morimoto HIDs for my low beams. LOVE them. I went with them over lows because of throw distance complaints that seemed prevalent. These things throw light quite a ways out.

I'll be getting LEDs for the high beams soon.

You and me both! If you're gonna mod anything at all, might as well do it right!

HIDs throw out more light than LEDs in all but extreme cases. However LEDs are instant on so thats useful for particular applications (high beams).

I did the Opt7 LED's. I feel like they throw just as far as the stock halogens and my wife's Explorer that came with factory LED's. The Opt7's do not wash out with the Tacoma like the factory halogens do. It's a lot easier on the eyes in my opinion too.
