My 2017 tacoma trd sport was shifting hard from 1st to 2nd when cold. Took it to Toyota today and it's a known problem. They had a software update to resolve the issue. They also checked trans and differential fluid levels with no hassle.

Just letting people know that if they have the same issue that Toyota has a fix for it. If you don't think the post is relevant just scroll past it and go on with your day.

This generation really has to be warned up longer then the 2nd generation in order to shift smoothly

Sorry. Yes, the software update has fixed the issue and the fluids were all filled to the required levels. No additional fluid was needed.

Good news- and welcome to TW-lots of great information and irrelevant fun here.
3rd gen issues are a hot topic as you will see if you stick around. Most are happy and have no problems (like me), but there some common complaints that are revisited over and over and over and over.
Good luck with your new truck, and post some pictures if you can- there is a thread where new members introduce themselves - check it out.
