Noise and jerking after releasing brake

Hello TW,
I am having an issue with my 06 taco dbl cab short bed. Sometimes, about 1 of every 3 times, when i come to a complete stop and release the break my truck makes a cluck noise and sort of jerks. All I am doing is releasing the break pedle nothing else. I have had 5 seperate mechanics look at it and none can pinpoint the problem. The closest one to solve the problem was a buddy of mine who suggested something with the suspension. We lifted the truck, free spun the front wheel and he noticed that the upper arm bushings were acting funny. We tightened them and clunk/jerk improved but it still does it. Anyone have a similar issue, or does anyone have any suggestions. I took it to the dealership but they said and i quote, " probably the driveshaft building up pressure and relasing it when you release the brake, it's normal..." NORMAL!!! F#%k that! This isn't normal, it makes me want to sell my truck man really its so stressfull... Please someone help!!!!

I had an old honda civic when I was in high school, it was acting similar, and turned out to be motor mounts. shouldn't be the issue but it's something to check on.

Sorry new to taco world. I did do a search but found nothing that i thought was related to my truck. These people all describe a lurch when they stop or come to a full stop. Mine doesnt do it until i release the break. very rarely do i feal it when im coming to a stop. any suggestions? i was just thinking of having my transmission serviced and then maybe replacing some parts off my suspension.

 

mine does it too... sometimes when i come to a stop, sometimes after i've been stopped for a little while, sometimes right when i release the brake! but when i'm not moving and it happens the engine revs at the same time so i'm pretty sure it's just downshifting from a stand-still but when i release the brake and it happens it's because there is torque built up from that downshift and it sorta jumps over my brakes

 

How bad of a jerk is it? Mine was pretty bad but i tightened the upper arm bushings and it got better. Still feels pretty bad though. Any suggestions?

 

it's pretty bad, I'd venture so far as to call it a super-clunk, it can be felt through my feet on the floorboards and in the steering wheel, and i don't think its axle wrap because it will do it if i take my foot off the brake and not hit the gas

 

Damn man it sounds like you and i have the same problemo... Im having my truck checked out tomorrow by a toyota certified tech, who appearantly was a shop foreman and decided to go out and start his own business he said he had these complaints all the time and he found a "solution." I asked him what it was but he kind of beat around the bush and didnt give me a straight answer. He was probably afraid I would go and do it myself. Anyways if he fixes it (crossing my fingers) I will let you guys know how... If not im gonna sell my truck... yea it's really that bad and annoying.

 

I've come across this before. It's when the metals in the axial shift plates gets overheated and deform into their tranformational bi-metals. Very rare. What you want to do is get a buddy to lay on a creeper underneath the truck when you are doing about 30mph and grease the axle joints.

It would do it when you release the brakes... that's when you release the built up tension. Mine's done it since day one...

 

I keep hearing that, " Its normal, Tacomas do this, its nothing to worry about" still i feel bad... Maybe its because i spent so much damn money on the truck and this makes it feel cheap and unsafe... Really i wouldnt tow stuff with it becuase of this clunk. Hopefully this guy tomorrow fixes i dont think i would be able to, "get used to it."

 

I've towed max capacity (6500lb) several times and never had a problem. I tow'd about 3500-4k lbs across half the country, no problems. Yea, I agree the truck shouldn't do these things... that said it is a truck, not a Lexus or Infiniti. Note, I came from a G35...

 

I also have the same issue. It feels like someone hitting the frame of the truck. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, but it's ALWAYS noticeable. OCTaco, if you find a solution, please post up the fix.

Bad news man. It looks like its the tranny going out. First thing to do is have the tranny flushed. If it comes back then you definately need a tranny. Appearantly its because some tranny's come from the factory short on oil. About 1 quart from what i can gather. Most people say its normal but of course its not. If I were you I would go to the dealer right away and get your tranny serviced or at least have the check the fluid level. PM and let me know how it worked out for you.

 

grease the slip yoke on the driveshaft...all toyotas do this not a tacoma issue

 

cant man on 06 taco's its sealed. I asked the stealership to do it and they said no go. It wasnt till i had my tranny flushed that this went away. but the again... the other sh%#* started so FML.

 

I also have the same issue. A month ago i went to the stealership and the tech guy said that its normal, all tacomas, 4runners do it. Also said that Toyota does not have a part to fix the problem. Can u believe it? of course not. It is all Bush$^&$%^&. Really, what a shame, I love my truck by with that issue I'll sell it. Now I wonder if 4x4s have the same problem. Mine is still under warranty but i dont care if i have to pay out of my pocket, just want this to be fixed.
