Interesting. Only kink in the theory though is I never used a 2.85 tune, only the stock SC tune. Lots of guys with the TRD SC and URD 2.85 run just fine though, so is a 2.85 tune really needed? Yeah might squeeze a few extra ponies out from under the SC but if it causes more problems than does good, I think I'll be happy to never again attach the BD to my truck.

I know I said I wouldn't ever plug the BD in again but I had to try. I know yours was always the 3" pulley tune so that's another variable too. What Gadget told me when I talked to him sort of makes me think its just my particular truck.

Until this thread I didn't think a tune was needed for the 2.8 pulley. I'm on the Toyota reflash though, so YMMV...

From my understanding the stock trd flash and or bully dog flash. Is already running rich enough to support the 2.85 pulley. Any additional mods may lean it out a little more

So you used the BD tuner to reset the ECU instead of disconnecting the battery and discharging by hitting the horn or lights? If so, you aren't exactly reproducing the situation - who's to say that the BD tuner does a proper reset? I wouldn't trust it - better to disconnect the battery.

From what I recall, disconnecting the battery will not reset the modifications to the ECU though...

Nope - but it will clear learned settings like fuel trim. It could be that the 2.85 tune isn't working for @loginfailed 's truck - the point is that the BD tuner may not be clearing those settings, but the battery disconnect or Techstream definitely will.

Science, bitches - reproduce the experimental conditions exactly, change only one parameter at a time. :anonymous:

Ah, okay. I understand what you're trying to do now.

Completely agree on the "one step at a time" philosophy.

    ...too much shit to list.
Not sure of the value given the current conversation, but I just spend 4 days in death valley and my air filter was absolutely caked with playa dust and truck generally running like shit under high RPM boost. I disconnected the battery, pulled the maf and filter and cleaned them, and cleaned out the entire engine bay and let it all dry for about 24 hours. Plugging everything back in and let it warm up. Went for a test drive and it was still running like shit until I stomped on it and ran it all the way to redline through the first 3 gears. Then it ran liked a raped ape again.

Net net...I'm inclined to agree with stored fuel trims that have to be relearned after a battery disconnect.

^^ Yup, I'm already saving up for a URD stage 2 clutch and heavy duty flywheel. I'm usually pretty gentle and don't bounce off the rev limiter, but I had a bad clutch smoking event when I had to back my travel trailer uphill for 100 yards. So I was living on borrowed time before the SC. I hope I can make it until Spring - it's cold in the garage :fingerscrossed:

My clutch seems ok so far but it's been wet and tires spinning. My 2.85 pulley and fuel pump are going on next week & roads will be dry. Gonna be a test lol

I've done this several ways. Clearing DTCs, battery disconnect w/discharge, Autel Maxisys "ECU Reset", Bully Dog "ECU Reset". I don't have Techstream yet but I'm getting one wether the Mongoose group buy pans or not so I'll eventually get to that scenario.

As it sits my truck runs fine and as @Biscuits and many others have stated the TRD tune is plenty to support the 2.85 pulley. When I bury the throttle the AFR is sub 11 so it's plenty safe. To me though, an AFR in the 10's @ WOT means there is definitely room to improve.

Now if I'm backing up more than a couple of feet, I put it in 4lo - lesson learned the hard way :anonymous:

I'd pay good money for a plug-and-play 2wd Low mod, just for backing up the trailer.

Attempting to install the BD tune onto the truck. When I plug it into the truck, and try to 'change vehicle' to my truck type, there is no SC option to select from. Anyone know why this is?

A few pages back they were talking about this. I believe the consensus was some of the BD tuners the SC was assumed, meaning all the options are SC options since the BD was made to be shipped with the Magnuson SC.

Yup - my tuner didn't have the SC option but when you connect to the PC you will see that the tuning files are indicated as Magnuson.
