For what you paid you could've gotten a fullsize

I traded in my 2016 DCLB LB taco for a Silverado LTZ double cab standard bed. Actually size wise they are not too far off one another. Silverado is 6" wider and IIRC 10" longer. Bed payload is quite a bit more in space and weight though..

Silverado had less than 400 miles on it when I had a ton of pellets loaded into it. Hauled it like a champ. Pretty impressed with the new 1/2 tons

 

Where the size difference is really noticeable is the cabin.





With all the mileage I put on, plus the hunting dogs, gear etc the Taco just wasn't a good fit. Plus I like the cabin comfort a little more these days..

 

Oh I agree, give it a year and you should though.

 

It's so annoying to me that you can't get a base truck (any brand) with the Off-Road package, or a Raptor, etc. with no other options. I really wanted a Ram Rebel for a looong time until I learned you can only get one with a crew cab and a short bed. Most expensive configuration, I don't like the look of crew cab trucks (usually), and an extended cab with a medium length bed suits me much better.

 

Ford unlike toyota lets you order specific trucks, so in theory you could build a base model supercab 17 raptor with MSRP of $48.5k and have it built and delivered, chances of finding one like that on the lot unlikely.

 

I can really see the appeal of a full size in terms of interior space. Only issue for me is that I live in a big city where parking the beast would be a pain. The short box Tacoma barely fits into the parking spots locally.

 

My first 'truck' was a 1985 Toyota truck. Std cab and bed. I worked in Baltimore and D.C. back then. That thing was a breeze to zip around in.

Yeah the new Tacoma, especially the DCLB is kinda big for what it is (or supposed to be).

I'd get another std cab/bed Toyota for a dedicated trail rig though, for sure.

 

Yep, had AC, then DCSB, AC, then 2 DCLB though they are more compact the turning radius, the wheel base, etc. was so similar to my 14 Silverado full size, never again, I love my new DCSB, forgot how much easier the little tacomas are to drive, its like driving a midsize again!

 

The Tacoma is arguably the most customized truck on the planet but it just isn't the same as HarleyWorld. I can only speak for myself when I say I own no, Toyota t-shirts, watches, belt buckles, jackets et al.

Heck, I don't even own any Honda swag.

When you buy a Tacoma, you actually have a great platform that you can improve on. Putting chrome on something is the proverbial lipstick on a pig...or hog in this instance!

Both my truck and bike are well-maintained but are rarely in a showroom state. I ride my bike....I don't pose at Tim Horton's and race home if there is a cloud on the horizon. The photo is from a charity ride I participated in...with the exception of a couple Suzuki cruisers...it was all HD's...no one spoke to me. The dude on the blue Suzuki beside me was a gent.

 

I do like full-size trucks, but there is just something about the Tacoma that I love. I can never really put my finger on it. I think the Tacoma is the best looking truck, full or mid size, and there is just something so honest and fun about driving a stick shift Toyota truck. It just has a character and charm that full size trucks don't.

 

I know this thread has morphed into something other than the original post, but I do want to make one observation regarding the original post: If you are tired of people who won't just accept that you choose what is right for you and not what is right for them, don't like people telling you that you are an idiot for not thinking exactly like they do, and hate it when people try to TELL you what you mean when you say something rather than ASK you what you mean when you say something, tacomaworld third gen is probably not the place you are looking for

 

People just need to accept that you are going to buy what you want whether its a Harley, a Full Size, or a Tacoma. Unless they are willing to pay your bills they have no business criticizing.

Amen. I live in a small town outside of DFW, and I don't know how these people afford their fuel bill every month. These aren't people running large corporations. Their welders, and regular folks driving these $1000 a month truck payments, with $10K in lift, tires, and wheels.

 

got to love the trades. They are making probably 5 to 7k a month. People dont realize how much a good tradesmen can make. Lots of great jobs with very little schooling needed.

 

Try finding a base Raptor. And they start at $52K, not $43, unless you go with a supercab, and they are $49,520 base with no options. Just because you can build it online, doesn't mean you will find it. The Discovery channel tells me Bigfoot is real, yet I've never seen one. Raptor is a bad ass ride, but not even close to the price of a $44K TRD Pro. Raptors in Dallas are selling for $5K plus over sticker. Their basically seventy grand.

 

You have to live in lower cost of living places

If you make 7k a month and live in LA with $4500 mortgage payment, hardly doubt you drive a $1000 a month truck

 

No way I would ever live in LA. Used to travel there a lot for work and hated every minute of it. It must be great there when you finally pay off a house.
